Supports the Chief Human Resources Officer by providing guidance, management, and tactical support for the various HR staff and activities supporting the Make-A-Wish mission and employee life cycle at the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Provides leadership and strategic direction in the areas of training, curriculum design and delivery, leadership development, performance management and development, planning and execution for nationally based conferences, orientations, National Office training sessions, and webinars, including overall responsibility for curriculum in the online Make-A-Wish University.

Areas of focus include: learning and development, performance management and development, and people analytics/HRIS and compensation and benefits administration.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develops the standards, expectations, and measurements that build employee competencies to support a high performance work force including needs assessment, curriculum development, selection of ‘best practice’ mode of delivery, and effective measurement.
  • Designs a curriculum which drives the development and achievement of the Make-A-Wish Foundation’s strategic objectives, core values, and core competencies for all employees.
  • Builds effective learning and development solutions across the employee experience.
  • Directs a team to work in partnership with various constituents to develop, implement, and drive results on key organizational issues, focusing on performance management and employee development.
  • Leads the development and delivery of organization wide learning and on-line training programs through Make-A-Wish University.
  • Partners with business unit leaders to anticipate and meet leadership development needs. Provides consulting expertise and leverages resources to provide efficient, measurable, and value-added services and training support within budgetary guidelines.
  • Identify and implement software system(s) to assist with the administration of Learning and Development programs. Establish and maintain dashboard metrics to evaluate effectiveness of learning outcomes and to implement enhancements as needed.
  • Collaborates with Chief Human Resources Officer in the design, development, implementation and tracking of HR programs, policies and procedures, HR budget, department goals and objectives, and systems that support the organization’s mission and values.
  • Partners with Chief HR Officer to develop, monitor, and adhere to annual budget.
  • Oversees HRIS/benefits administration including total compensation and benefits programs to ensure competiveness and the ability to attract and retain top talent.
  • Serves as a member of the National Office Directors Team.
  • Performs other related duties, special projects, reporting, and organizational analysis as assigned by the Chief Human Resources Officer and/or the Senior Leadership Team.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Learning and Development, Human Resources, Business or related field required. Master’s degree preferred.
Skills/Experience: 

Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Possess sound knowledge of Human Resources practices and leading external best practices
  • Demonstrate exceptional leadership skills that inspire and motivate others to succeed.
  • Extensive knowledge of instructional design principles, presentation delivery, contract negotiations, and proposal writing skills.
  • Possess excellent communication and coaching skills, strategic thinking, and growth mindset, people and project management skills.
  • Engage effectively with professionals at all levels of the organization.
  • Organize work, prioritize, and delegate to meet deadlines, and make timely decisions with sound judgment.
  • Demonstrated program and project management skills to lead multiple initiatives against leadership and people solutions

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 -7+ years of progressive responsibility in Learning and Development, including training design, adult learning theory, training delivery methods, measurement and evaluation, and vendor management.
  • Minimum of 5 – 7+ years demonstrated leadership experience required.
  • Experience developing and delivering educational modules in an e-learning environment preferred.
  • Working knowledge of nonprofit organizations is helpful.

 Working Conditions:

  • Work in an office environment.
  • Some travel required.
  • May require work outside a traditional Monday – Friday work week, and outside normal business hours.
