The Bill & Melinda Gates foundation is searching for an experienced candidate to support the Integrated Delivery team. The Associate Program Officer (APO) will provide analytical, project management, and operational support to the Integrated Delivery primary healthcare sub-systems and product design and introduction teams.
The Associate Program Officer (APO), Integrated Delivery will plan, manage, and execute a wide range of activities in support of strategic planning; prospect and develop complex investment opportunities; and support grants and external relationship management related to strengthening primary healthcare systems and product design and introduction teams.
Project focus for the APO will be determined on a rolling basis dependent on team priorities and need. The initial focus for the role will likely include (but not be limited to) the following:
Strategy development and investment management for a portfolio of investments related to primary healthcare sub-systems and product design and launch.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing strategic analyses to inform organizational policy and investment decisions
- Supporting internal & external stakeholder management
- Preparing recommendations and communications to guide foundation leadership
- Collaborate and support team of program officers responsible for improving the performance of health system sub-systems and product design and access in developing countries.
- Review letters of inquiry and grant proposals; provide clear, concise and insightful written analyses and recommendations for funding, including drafting and editing proposal summaries and progress reports for existing grants for review by foundation leadership
- Consult with grantees to achieve desired impact of grants; conduct site visits when appropriate; provide technical guidance, convene meetings and apply and evaluate milestone-based performance objectives
- Manage internal processes and portfolio progress while ensuring appropriate documentation, grant budgeting and reporting
- Prepare and write briefs synthesize existing literature and consultations with experts; provide written analysis of key topics for foundation management; fulfil data requests from leadership
- Manage a portfolio of related grants
- Undertake short research and analytical projects, and prepare briefs and analytics for foundation stakeholders, managers, and leaders.
The APO role requires strong research, analytical, communication and project management experience. Knowledge and experience with the foundation and its Integrated Delivery portfolio would contribute to a fast start, but is not necessary. A background or education in public health, health sciences, behavioral sciences, international development or business would be ideal. The candidate should also have an understanding of the global health and international development environment and experience in developing country would be strongly preferred.

- A minimum of 3 years of experience in in a role requiring the application of research, analysis, and writing skills related to global health and international development to guide strategic and programmatic discussions among leadership audiences. Master’s degree in public health, behavioral sciences, supply chain, international development, business administration, or other related area preferred.
