The American Heart Association (AHA) has an excellent opportunity for an Advocacy Business Advancement Director in our National Center office located in Dallas, TX (Remote/Home Based is acceptable) .

The Advocacy Business Advancement Director is responsible for identifying and developing new business models and integrated offerings for revenue generation for advocacy in collaboration with internal and external contacts. Researches, prioritizes and maximizes opportunities for leveraging the AHA’s advocacy assets for new business opportunities and incorporating advocacy opportunities with corporate sponsorships, major gift, and individual giving requests. This role is responsible for developing strategic business relationship with global, national and local public policy advocacy funders and collaborators to secure funding for national AHA organizational priorities, works with Mission Advancement and field leadership to build a strong portfolio of accounts to achieve annual revenue targets, as well as meeting and exceeding strategic account objectives. Additional responsibilities include exploring, developing and testing new business models to leverage and monetize the AHA’s advocacy assets, competencies, processes and organizational reach for both mission-aligned opportunities and other potential business relationships prospects.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Acts as a senior level contact to represent AHA advocacy efforts with global and national funders, including foundations, corporations, and individuals.
  • Develop, plan and collaborate with senior management and volunteers to prospect for new business to meet or exceed organizational goals.
  • Researches, identifies and creates plans for integrating advocacy opportunities into customized corporate or major gift market development efforts. Presents and manages strategy development and implementation in cooperation with Corporate Relations and Major Gifts staff. Research and develop a portfolio of donors.
  • Provides research, data, and strategic plan during the development of funding proposals. Identify, plan, prepare and present grant proposals and accompanying materials (including budgets and timelines), as well as complete appropriate follow-through and stewardship for multiple grants/gifts.
  • Lead advocacy strategic account planning process across the advocacy department that develops mutual goals and objectives, revenue targets and critical milestones on a multi-year basis.
  • Develops individualized budgets in collaboration with advocacy operations and provides budgeting guidance for funding proposals incorporating identified program/product.
  • Coordinate with appropriate departments to provide support, service, programs, or senior management resources.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Management or related area.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum of five (5) years of successful sales experience, particularly in selling intangible programs and services, along with the ability to develop and execute sales and marketing strategies.
  • Experience in negotiation and solution oriented problem-solving.
  • Experience developing and delivering presentations to both large and small groups.
  • Comprehensive ability to prepare written and oral communications including thorough knowledge and command of government relations and advocacy.
  • Ability to consult and interact with highest levels of corporate leadership.
  • Must be able to travel overnight approx. 20% of the time.
