Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) is currently seeking a talented professional for the role of a Habitat Development Council Director. The Habitat Development Council Director reports to the Vice President, Collaboration, Support and Operations in the Development Division at Habitat for Humanity International and is based in Atlanta, Georgia. The Vice President of Collaboration, Support and Operations support's Habitat's global fundraising strategy and works closely with the local Habitat organizations across the network. The Habitat Development Council is a global group of 'champions' that seeks to serve as a catalyst for action within Habitat for Humanity, accelerating the organization’s unique ministry and work in areas of strategic importance. Comprised of distinguished business, community and political leaders from around the world, the council’s mission is to:

  • Mobilize significant resources in areas of strategic importance to improve shelter situations and create housing opportunities that deliver high impact and large scale results.
  • Challenge and encourage Habitat to develop ambitious and specific projects that cause significant community, sector and societal impact.

The Council focuses on strategic investments with high impact and large-scale results. More than a fundraising tool, HDC is a cultivation tool that will drive growth through membership giving and lead identification.

The Habitat Development Council Director plays a critical role in faciliating strategic engagement of key champions of Habitat with senior management, international board members and key programmatic leadership. This role requires a resourceful individual who is adept at highly strategic engagement with prospective donors and champions. Experience in major gift fundraising is essential. 

The HDC Director must have experience with major donors and demonstrate the ability to close seven figure gifts. The HDC Director needs to be self-motivation, and possess strong analytical, financial and interpersonal skills. In this role the Director will be identifying prospective members and grow the Council membership base, build and enhance the Council program, cultivate existing HFH influential relationships, assist in securing major commitments from new members, and act as the front-facing contact between the Council and Habitat for Humanity.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Oversight and management of the Executive Committee of the Habitat Development Council
  • Develop a strategy to grow and enhance the Council over the next 3 years by expanding and sustaining Council membership
  • Develop a strategy to effectively steward Council members through various channels such as communication, events, meetings and unique opportunities
  •  Discover opportunities within current, past and prospective HFH corporate partners, individual major donors and foundations to introduce Council membership
  • Collaborate closely with Area Vice Presidents and Area RD Directors to identify opportunities for Council prospects, events for Council integration or local programs that could benefit from Council attention 
  • Develop strong relationships with Council members by initiating thoughtful and frequent communication with each member, and act as the primary contact for HFH related requests or activities
  • Support Council member efforts to advance HFH ministry and work, as needed and appropriate
  • Communicate with Council Executive Committee and Chair on a regular basis to report new developments, priorities, strategies, opportunities and challenges as they relate to the Council
  • Liaise between internal key stakeholders on Council related activities
  • Develop comprehensive reports to demonstrate Council success to internal and external stakeholders
  • Ensure proper stewardship and reporting of all Council direct and indirect contributions
  • Ensure proper record keeping on all Council member profiles, interactions with HFH, and any personal or business related developments
  • Devise and manage a working budget to support the Council and manage increasing parameters year over year, as necessary
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree is required, Master’s degree or higher is preferred
Skills/Experience: 
  • Candidate must have 7-10 years of related work experience, which may include, but is not limited to, implementing multi-strategy business and/or fundraising plans or a combination of experience in external/corporate relations, major gift cultivation and strong communications still. A demonstrated ability to deliver results
  • Proven success solidifying high net- worth donors, six figures or above from individuals, private foundations and corporations
  • Ability to work effectively in an entrepreneurial, collaborative environment, and is able to direct and work in harmony with a diverse group of highly motivated and capable individuals
  • Experience with individual giving, private foundations and corporations and major gift solicitations required
  • Demonstrated success in working with boards and committees
  • Experience working across multiple regions or countries a plus
  • Demonstrated knowledge of business correspondence, marketing materials and reports
  • Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and high degree of flexibility
  • Works well under pressure and with the ability to manage multiple projects and conflicting deadlines
  • Strong computer skills and donor or development software knowledge
  • Demonstrated interest in/knowledge of housing or poverty eradication efforts
  • Experience managing budgets, people and consultants
  • Experience traveling internationally
