Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) is currently seeking an experienced professional to serve as an Affordable Housing Organizational Development Consultant.
This position will be based remotely in the US and requires approximately 30% travel.
The Capacity Building program is funded by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) which receives appropriate funds for Capacity Building for Community Development and Affordable Housing grants Section 4. The goal of the Capacity Building grant is to increase affiliates’ ability to expand the number of families served, increase the number of housing units, improve financial sustainability and build a strong operational foundation. HFHI funds high impact positions’ salaries over a three year period on a diminishing grant scale. HFHI strives to make the Capacity Building grant a successful program for all affiliates that apply.
This position reports to the Director, Affiliate Services & State Support Organization Support, and is responsible for consulting with Habitat for Humanity (HFH) affiliates who have received Section 4 Capacity Building grants from Housing & Urban Development (HUD). The ideal candidate will work with the affiliates to grow and increase their capacity to achieve Habitat's mission. 95% of the work will be with Capacity Building affiliates and staff. This position has cross-functional reporting responsibility to the Manager - Government Grants Programs.
- Respond to Capacity Building affiliates by presenting consulting services and resources in the seven areas identified in the Capacity Building model (which includes):
- leadership and management board
- leadership and management staff
- operations
- resource development
- family services
- construction
- land acquisition
- Learn all aspects of the Capacity Building program
- Document support objectives and file necessary monthly and quarterly reports
- Address Capacity Building work plan issues as they arise with affiliates
- Attend and deliver training at Capacity Building conferences
- Travel to affiliates for onsite training, and attend required staff meetings as approved by manager
- Other related duties as assigned by supervisor
- 3-5 years of work experience in grant consulting or similar field
- Outstanding people skills
- Excellent verbal & written communication
- Aptitude in working on virtual teams in order to meet unit goals
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Willingness to grow and learn new skills, and consulting experience
- Basic Microsoft operational systems
Preferred:
- Excellent understanding of Habitat for Humanity mission and method of operation
- Experience in working with government funded grant implementation
