Working closely with the Director, we seek a Senior Program Officer (SPO) whom will be responsible to support and manage the LSP function and activities within the Asia region to achieve high impact healthcare outcomes. You will play a key role in building broader and deeper alliances across multiple industry business sectors, facilitating the optimal collective use and application of foundation and industry assets, and overseeing and executing associated cross-sector development efforts. This position will serve both Global Health (GH) and Global Development (GD) divisions and their affiliated Program Strategy Teams (PSTs).

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Develop and maintain key alliance management activities with key partners in Asia, such as develop strategic plans, capability assessments, investment roadmaps, investment portfolio management.
  • Advise, mentor, and support colleagues within the foundation and their grantees in the design, enhancement, and execution of project, initiatives and engagements. Manage partnerships and grantee relationships to achieve impact, for example, by conducting site visits, convening meetings of key stakeholders, monitoring and evaluating components of grants.
  • Accountable for the identification and assessment of key industry/company portfolio risks, and the development and management of mitigation/contingency plans at the portfolio level.
  • Conduct and support business development transactions with external parties in support of the foundation’s product supply and product development goals and leverages investments tools including the use of guaranties, loans, equity investments and grants.
  • Manage selected industry-level investments grants, such as Global Health Innovative Technology Fund (GHIT) and Research Investment for Global Health Technology Fund (RIGHT).
  • Develop and lead industry-wide engagement initiatives with cross-functional project teams, involving external partners, such as LSP’s signature initiative, CEO Roundtable, or developing country vaccine manufactures (DCVM) initiatives
  • Develop and lead global health strategies for selected disease or industry sectors in close collaborations with respective PSTs and functions
  • Support Director in senior leadership engagement; both internal and external.
  • Support Director in communicating Foundation’s strategy and objectives to external audiences and potential grantees and industry related stakeholders, such as industry associations or policy think tanks. 
  • Contribute to LSP team efforts with own expertise and network, join selected project teams led by other LSP members.

The responsibilities of this role require that the successful candidate have a solid background and in-depth global management experience in a private sector pharmaceutical business and/or biotech sector. Additionally, you should have:

  • Strong science background in vaccines / bio therapeutics, drugs and or diagnostics; preferred.
  • Thorough understanding of and/or previous responsibility for P&L and balance sheet mechanics.
  • Strong network of senior industry leaders in relevant industry sectors with an ability to build and manage high level industry, government, and multilateral relationships and alliance programs.
  • Extensive vaccine, drug and/ or diagnostics business development and commercialization experience and skill sets. Negotiation experience in a broad range of initiatives including partnership agreements, supply contracts, product development agreements, IP licensing, technology transfer agreements, and program related investments including guarantees and equity investments.
  • Understanding of biopharma product development and manufacturing processes including discovery, regulatory, clinical trial, process development and production.
  • Knowledge of global health issues and institutions, and experience working with global partners such as GAVI, WHO, UNICEF, and CDC, and / or experience in developing country settings and knowledge of government health systems a plus.
  • Proven ability to lead and influence others.
  • Strategic thinking skills (e.g. can match foundation needs to industry capabilities and technologies).
  • Excellent listening skills and empathy. Ability to question and challenge colleagues including managers, partners, and clients in constructive manner.
  • Effective collaborator and experience working in a matrix environment is preferred.
  • Excellent oral, facilitation, and written communication skills with a broad and diverse audience.
  • Ability to work with flexibility, entrepreneurship, and diplomacy both individually and as part of a complex team effort.
  • Master’s / MBA with 15+ years of relevant industry experience.
  • Ability to travel up to 20% domestically and internationally.
  • A sense of humor.
