Provide leadership, coordination and management in implementation of the agricultural extension component of the Ensuring Nutrition, Transforming and Empowering Rural Farmers and Promoting Resilience in Zimbabwe (ENTERPRIZE) grant in compliance with donor/grant requirements, WVI key policy documents, as well as relevant strategies. The position entails management of activities designed to improve agricultural extension support and facilitation of capacity building of target groups (smallholder farmers and public extension staff) in order to increase agricultural/livestock productivity. The function involves intense monitoring of the programme’s deliverables to ensure that the programme is executed on scope, on time, on budget and with the relevant quality expectations.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • To explain the goals and objectives of the ENTERPRIZE project to communities and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure that the agricultural extension objective is implemented on scope, on time, on budget, while meeting the expected quality expectations and donor requirements.
  • Provide technical support to district coordinators and field facilitators.
  • Facilitate capacity building of agricultural public extension staff, improving agricultural extension services for small holder farmers.
  • Ensure roll-out, implementation and sustainability of Farmer Field Schools and Lead Farmer groups to enhance crop and livestock productivity.
  • Develop extension action plans and training materials related to key value chain commodity production.
  • Represent the ENTERPRIZE consortium in the Extension and Advisory Services working group.
  • Participate in the planning, budgeting and monitoring and evaluation of the agricultural component of the programme.
  • Develop Information, Education and Communication (IEC) extension material resources as per project design.
Educational Background: 
Master’s degree in Agriculture, preferably Agronomy or at least 5 years work experience with a degree in Agriculture.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Three to five years’ experience in agricultural community development work and a leadership position.
  • Experience in conservation agriculture, value chain promotion, good agricultural practices, lead farmer methodologies, and livestock related initiatives.
  • Financial management and budgeting for accountability of resources and an in-depth knowledge of project design, project management, project implementation and report writing.
  • Clean Class 4 driver’s license.
  • Computer literate (computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint).
