The Development Specialist will provide support and leadership for the development, oversight and execution of diversified, comprehensive development and fundraising plans in the San Diego and Imperial Chapter area.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Using Alzheimer’s Association best practices, standards and guidelines, develop comprehensive event plans that include budgets, timelines, team recruitment and retention strategies, volunteer committee development, sponsorship cultivation, marketing/PR and logistics.
  • Develop The Longest Day into the Chapter’s second signature event through the recruitment of volunteer team taskforce committee members and develop relationships with team captains, business organizations and social clubs.
  • Collaborate with the Development Director and other staff members on prospective donor cultivation, solicitation strategies and actions to maximize fund-development opportunities.
  • Represent the Chapter’s interests in the identification and development of third party events.
  • Identify, train, engage and coach high impact volunteers.
  • Collaborate with volunteers and volunteer leaders on increasing concern and awareness and growing revenue through fundraising events. 
  • Represent the Chapter at public events, conferences, workshops and media events.
  • Work to build understanding for the Alzheimer's Association, its research, programs and services in all communications with current and potential donors.
  • Prepare and distribute communications to volunteers and donors via multiple channels, including email, social media, print and telephone. 
  • Provide ongoing support to overall operations including customer service to internal and external constituents, database mining and management, production of fundraising reports and management of stakeholder relations and communications. 
Educational Background: 
A Bachelor's degree preferred. An equivalency of work experience and education may be considered
Skills/Experience: 
  • A minimum of three years of experience in sales, marketing, fundraising, nonprofit management, special events or a related field
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to speak publicly in large and small groups 
  • Ability to self-start, multitask, prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a supportive team environment on strategic initiatives, priorities and mission fulfillment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to use other software and databases. Google experience preferred
  • Access to a reliable vehicle, a valid driver’s license and proof of automobile insurance
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed
  • Ability to travel as needed to perform job duties
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs 
  • Spanish language fluency a plus
