Vice President, Development

The American Heart Association (AHA) has an excellent opportunity for a Vice President Development. The Vice President is responsible for leading and developing a high performing staff team in the overall planning, management and implementation of the major special event fundraising campaigns in the San Diego market with a revenue goal of $2.5M and reporting directly to the Executive Director.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Ownership and bottom-line accountability for the overall revenue goal generated through special event campaigns including Heart Walk, Gala and Go Red For Women
  • Management and development of key fundraising staff teams
  • Identification, recruitment and management of key leadership volunteers in the corporate and medical fields
  • Direct oversight of special event overall operations, including adherence to established best practices
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
Skills/Experience: 
  • 5+ years of fund raising experience in progressively responsible positions
  • 5+ years of experience working with and managing high level volunteers
  • 3+ years of staff management experience
  • Strong interpersonal, time management, communication (written and oral) skills
  • Demonstrated leadership ability including skills in budgeting, management and group dynamics
  • Ability and willingness to travel and to work evenings and weekends as needed

Here are some of the preferred experience/skills we are looking for:

  • Experience with the American Heart Association or similar non-profit experience
  • Successful corporate sponsorship and donor cultivation experience
