The Advocacy Lead, shares in the overall responsibility for the direction and coordination of the WVL National Office advocacy program and leads the policy influencing that the organization undertakes.
He/She will have the ability to coordinate the design and implementation of social accountability and advocacy interventions, and related capacity strengthening to achieve positive and lasting changes to fulfil children’s rights.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Promoted local level advocacy, including social accountability mechanisms to priorities key advocacy issues that affect the local communities and equip the National Office in scaling up their engagement, guidance & monitoring of the Citizen Voice Action (CVA) Plan.
- Provide technical leadership in the implementation of citizen participation programs and monitoring of service delivery work Ensure AP level technical project baseline survey is established & effective monitoring system in place for quality assurance
- Lead / assist in the development of WVL Advocacy Strategy in meeting organizational goals relevant to the local context & integration into the field operations work plan in line with the Technical Program deliverables
- Organize training and technical assistance to internal staff members as well as to selected civil society partners on a need basis.
- Build /maintain advocacy related external relationships and enhance collaborative relationships, with internal and external stakeholders in raising the profile of WVL in advocating on issues affecting children
- Coordinate the “It Takes a World to End Violence against Children” campaign working with all stakeholders in lobbying for child rights issues , research & monitor emerging legislation on violence against children in the local context
Educational Background:
A degree in Development Studies, Social Science, Law, Public Policy or equivalent.- Masters level qualification in a related field would be an advantage.
Skills/Experience:
- A minimum of 3 years advocacy related experience, with experience in successfully leading the development and implementation of advocacy strategies
- Experience in influencing other Civil society organisations, government, donors, through representation , influence and advocacy.
- Experience of working with local partners and District Local Government, (e.g. Child Rights Governance, Health, Nutrition, Education, )
- Influencing, negotiation, coaching and communication skills.
- Strong analytical skills, and planning abilities & documentation skills.
- Availability and willingness to work extra hours during times of humanitarian responses.
- Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English & Sinhala and/or Tamil preferred.
- Willing & able to travel domestically & internationally up to 40% of the time
