Mission:

Our Mission is to provide dynamic, responsive programs that engage the goals, talents, and interests of individuals who have Intellectual Disability and empower them to achieve their dreams of optimal independence, enriching social networks, and effective participation in our community.

Programs:

One Step Beyond Programs

Just like anyone else, people who have Intellectual Disabilities seek fulfillment in everyday activities. They want to contribute to their communities and live as independently as they can, whether with their families or with friends and housemates of their own choosing.

Since the skills that are needed to achieve these goals are not always learned independently or in school, One Step Beyond has been providing unique services to close this gap for the past 14 years. One Step Beyond starts with the basics and continually reinforces lessons throughout the scope of our many programs.

Life Skills Programs

One Step Beyond provides Life Skills programs on 2 Campuses in the West Valley, serving adults 18 to 60+ years of age in a Monday through Friday, 8 hour a day program. The focus of all Life Skills  programs is to provide a variety of curriculum opportunities to build personal independence and access to community integration, as well as to form lasting friendships in a fun and enriching environment.

Employment Program

The One Step Beyond Employment Program is a one-of-a-kind, progressive training, placement, and support model that utilizes community service opportunities, One Step Beyond internal and community employment to teach individuals who have Intellectual Disability the skills they need to be successful in the competitive workplace and truly contribute to their communities. Our Employment Program stresses ongoing job coach support to insure program participants are successful in the workplace and that community employers receive high quality employee productivity.

Culinary Program

The One Step Beyond Culinary Training Program and Catering Company provides culinary training on 3 campuses. Curriculum is a skill-based program that teaches basic homestyle cooking skills and progresses to commercial culinary skills and preparation for employment with the One Step Beyond Catering Company or in the mainstream Food Industry.

Recreation and Social Activities

One Step Beyond has unique approach of providing recreational programs on evenings and weekends, beyond the typical program day. Realizing that young adults who have disability deserve a social life comparable to their peers who do not have disability, we have established our Friday Fun Nights and Social Saturdays Program to provide evening and weekend social opportunities so that our program participants and the young adults of families in our adjacent communities can get out to the movies, ball parks, and other cultural and community events.

Sports and Fitness Training

One Step Beyond is on the forefront of developing progressive programs in response to our participants' needs. In response to the high risk of obesity and health complications in this population, and recognizing that fitness and stamina are fundamental to independence and employment success, One Step Beyond provides programs that focus on health, nutrition, fitness training, and sports, including Special Olympics training and tournament participation.

Cultural Arts Programs

While sports and fitness can foster strong bodies, the arts enrich the soul and enhance joy. Arts opportunities can be difficult to access for people with Developmental Disabilities, thus One Step Beyond developed truly engaging arts programming, including classes in dance, theater, film, music, and studio art.

Parent Support Services

Having a child with Intellectual Disability is something most parents never expect. Maneuvering one's way through the governmental and medical agencies in search of services and support can be an overwhelming task. One Step Beyond provides many resources dedicated to aiding parents who's adult sons and daughters have IntellectualDisability.
