The Outreach Specialist plays a significant role in successfully meeting and exceeding strategic care and support initiatives. Under the supervision of the Program Director, the Outreach Specialist is responsible for the development and deployment of a community engagement and education strategy, establishing relationships with physicians, medical system providers, care facilities and other community stakeholders, and conducting and oversight of community outreach support and education programs, assuring inclusion of services for diverse communities. As a part of the Greater Wisconsin team, plays a supportive role in the overall success of Chapter fundraising goals. This position is located in our Wausau office with travel throughout  the chapter's service region. 

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • With Program Director, develops, expands, delivers and deploys a community engagement and education strategy for families, those diagnosed with Alzheimer's and related diseases, health care professionals, community organizations and the general public.
  • Identifies, recruits, trains and manages volunteers to implement the delivery of the Common Program Plan, support services and research programs. Provides mentoring to ensure retention of volunteers, with the intention of building a vibrant volunteer-driven program. Develops and implements volunteer recognition strategy/ programs.
  • Works with Program Director in outreach efforts and builds working relationships with physicians, medical systems, service providers, care facilities and other stakeholders who collaborate on Association initiatives.
  • Expands program opportunities through diversity and inclusion outreach to meet strategic plan initiatives.
  • Collects and enters relevant data for grant reporting, measuring toward strategic goals, and submits monthly reports as requested.
  • Insures continuous quality improvement; assess, complete and reviews program evaluations to meet and exceed performance outcomes.
  • Collaborates and refers when appropriate as care providers and family members are referred by the helpline or when family members request this service directly.
  • Proactively and collaboratively works with Greater Wisconsin Chapter team members to support the Alzheimer's Association's vision, mission, core values and strategic goals to promote Association programs such as Trial Match recruitment, The Longest Day, Walk to End Alzheimer's Advocacy and other Association special events. Plays an active and supportive role in assigned territory to ensure successful implementation of all fundraising initiatives.
  • Takes initiative to assure timely and effective public relations and marketing of educational support services and programs in assigned service area.
  • Remains knowledgeable and current in information related to Alzheimer's and related diseases as well as national, state, and local initiatives that affect the targeted population.
  • Supports Advocacy efforts on both the state and federal level. Works with all team members to assure that requirements for grant-funded programs and services in the assigned territory are met.
  • Attends and assists in development of cutting-edge conferences and meetings.
  • Ensures new community resources and related events are directed to alz.org/CRF and/or local event calendars.
  • Maintains accurate records of program and event participation and other metrics.
  • Manages activities within budgeted parameters.
  • Supports the Program and Executive Directors as requested. 
  • Strategically plan and manage the execution of all Walk day logistics for assigned Walk, including: sponsors, teams, rentals, walk route, site details, contracts, catering, decor, entertainment, transportation, equipment
  • Manage, recruit and train the volunteer logistics chair and committee members for the assigned Walk
  • Assist with all Walk wraparound events (e.g., kickoffs, registration weeks, bank nights, contest weeks, etc.) and all walker stewardship and cultivation initiatives
  • Prepare Walk data reporting (e.g., biweekly reports, benchmarking, queries, stewardship call sheets, etc.)
  • Proactively and collaboratively work with development team to recruit, retain and track sponsors (to be used internally to fulfill sponsorship benefits)
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in health care related field: development, nursing, gerontology, exercise science, social work or related.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Experience in counseling, coaching and supporting individuals and their families.
  • Experience in volunteer management and support.
  • Ability to work with a wide range of people including persons with dementia, family and professional caregivers, corporate partners, foundation staff, volunteers, legislators and public policy officials.
  • Strong organizational skills to design, implement and evaluate program initiatives.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills; strong public speaking skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products, especially Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Google applications; willing and able to perform all training required for persona assignment for organizational CRM system, Personify360.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and a willingness to use personal vehicle in the course of employment. Must show proof of automobile insurance.
