The Physician Outreach Specialist (POS) is responsible for building relationships with the healthcare provider community to encourage early detection and treatment of dementia as well as referrals to the Alzheimer's Association. The ideal candidate will be familiar with senior, aging and medical provider networks, possess strong networking skills, and have experience working with volunteers.
The POS is responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with health systems & medical providers to achieve mission targets. The position also requires public speaking on Alzheimer's and related topics to caregiving and professional audiences. Our goal is to help position the Alzheimer's Association widely, as the place to turn for all matters relating to Alzheimer's disease and related disorders.
This position is part time, working 20 hours per week, reports to the VP Programs & Services and is located in McLean, VA.
- Works throughout region to develop & maintain engagement with health systems and health providers. Promotes the benefit of early detection & increases Association referrals.
- Ensures strategy for health systems and care providers are met & creates a plan to deliver on goals
- Coordinate and conduct education presentations for public, caregivers and healthcare providers
- Develop partnerships with medical practices, large health systems and clinics to maximize impact in Chapter activities and fundraising work
- Coordinate training to health care professionals in our Chapter territory
- Educates medical providers and the aging services network about dementia care and services
- Oversee Medical Outreach Program to expand reach to neurologists, geriatricians, & top prescribing doctors in key target areas in our Chapter territory
- Recruit, train & supervise medical outreach volunteers to conduct in person doctor office visits
- Leverages special events to reach more physicians, and promote early detection and referrals
- Tracks activities and programs in appropriate databases and assist in writing grant reports
- Minimum five years of health care experience
- Community mobilization and/or volunteer recruitment and management experience
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, sales and marketing experience.
- Deadline and detail oriented, organized, adaptable and able to manage multiple projects
- Public speaking experience
- Ability to work with diverse communities and demonstrate inclusion
- Successful at building partnerships and working collectively with other to meet set goals.
- Ability to travel locally
- Must possess valid driver's license, access to a reliable vehicle and proof of automobile insurance
