Reporting to the Director of Education (School-Age), the Education Specialist, School-Age Mathematics, will support the further development and implementation of USP’s mathematics portfolio targeted at 5-8 (up to 10) year old children. Specific responsibilities include: continuing to develop the key program (including training and resources), providing USPA state teams support with implementation, training, monitoring and evaluation; and supporting the broader school-age programmatic work within USPA.
Areas of Responsibility:
Development and Refinement of Mathematics and STEM Curriculum (40%)
- Continue to design and refine the school-age afterschool, in-school and summer (SummerBoost and KinderBoost) mathematics curriculum currently in place in USPA.
- Continue to vet STEM curricula for SummerBoost camps and support implementation of current STEM programs within USPA.
Training and Technical Assistance (40%)
- Develop necessary training and materials critical in delivery of mathematics (and STEM where applicable) programs
- Assist in developing and implementing training efforts for mathematics staff across all identified states
- Provide on-going technical assistance to state staff and partner schools operating comprehensive math and STEM (summer only) programming
- Ensure effective operation of model mathematics programs including successful program monitoring and evaluation
Support Greater USPA School-Age Work (20%)
- Collaborate and work cooperatively with essential departments such as finance, resource development, sponsorship, MEAL team and international colleagues
- Support school-age work at large including small tasks and projects to assist team’s efforts around mathematics, STEM and general programming
- Assist in seeking potential funds to support the mathematics work across USPA
- Collaborate with Early Childhood Education team and Disaster Response and Recovery team to support mathematics work throughout all programs
Educational Background:
Bachelor’s Degree in elementary education
Skills/Experience:
- Minimum of 5-7 years’ experience in education
- Extensive knowledge of mathematical instruction, assessments and interventional approaches
- Extensive experience in developing training and coaching individuals
- Experience in providing ongoing technical assistance, training, and direction to racially and culturally diverse communities, individuals and groups, ensuring consistency with Save the Children’s mission and methodology
- Thorough understanding of, and ability to work effectively with, local community organizations at the grassroots level
- Excellent research skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills
- Familiarity with computer programs such as Microsoft Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint
- Willingness to travel throughout the US (up to 20%)
- Clear understanding of issues related to poverty in rural
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree through PhD in Education with specialization in the area of mathematics
