The American Heart Association (AHA) has an excellent opportunity for a VICE PRESIDENT OF DEVELOPMENT - HEART WALK in our MIDWEST AFFILIATE office located in ST. LOUIS, MO. Vice President of Heart Walk will plan, organize, staff, and direct the entire operation of Heart Walk events, in the St. Louis metro market. You will ensuring the implementation of effective programs in community service, education, development, and communications. Directs, collaborates, and coaches staff to achieve goals. Accountable for revenue generation and community development activities for the metro division events. The VP will also serve in a player/coach capacity.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Guides and directs team to achieve event and revenue goals, which includes assisting with the implementation of Heart Walk fundraising events.
  • Accountable for hiring, directing, training, evaluating and terminating staff under his/her supervision.
  • Develops, monitors, and evaluates an annual working plan with dollar and volunteer recruitment goals, budget and timelines for the event. Develop contingency plans, as needed to successfully complete fundraising activities. Assumes bottom line responsibility for metro area event income goals.
  • Develops profiles on the top businesses within the assigned geographic area with a documented plan to secure their involvement. Maintains company records and execution plan.
  • Secures sponsorships and campaign participation.
  • Develops relationship-building strategies to include making personal visits on a monthly and quarterly basis.
  • Responsible for staff follow-up and monitoring of assigned fundraising activities. Works closely with the Communications Director to develop and manage a promotion and communications plan.
  • Ensures that divisions and activities function within the parameters of American Heart Association and Midwest Affiliate policy.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university preferred
College coursework combined with related experience may be substituted for a degree
Related experience may be substituted as follows: 1 ½ years’ experience equates to 1 full time year of higher education
Skills/Experience: 
  • Must have at least 4 years of experience in outside sales or in a non-profit organization in a similar capacity. This experience may also count towards satisfying this position’s educational requirement.
  • Must have at least 2 years of experience in a management capacity. This experience may occur within the 4-year related experience requirement. Experience gained through direct internal work on AHA projects/priorities may substitute for this requirement and will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
  • Must have reliable transportation and ability to maintain valid driver’s license and auto insurance.
  • Must have at least basic knowledge and skill with Microsoft Office 2010 used for word processing, email, presentations, and spreadsheets. Advanced knowledge and skill with these programs is preferred. These skills are subject to testing.
  • Must pass background checks.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Access to reliable transportation and ability to maintain valid driver’s license and auto insurance.|
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds with the expectation that items in excess of 20 pounds would be broken down into smaller components or additional assistance is required before lifting and/or moving.
