The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) Independence Program Specialist serves as the subject matter expert for all aspects of the Independence Program and is the primary conduit for severely injured Warriors and family members for integration in to the Independence Program and other appropriate WWP programs.
Areas of Responsibility:
Program management/development:
- Govern programmatic intent to ensure alignment of resources, services, and goals.
- Provide programmatic oversight of funding requests, goal implementation, constituent feedback, and WWP program engagement.
- Provide regular reports to leadership regarding caseload engagement in WWP services and identification of programmatic trends.
Resource management/development:
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with community resources local to warriors on caseload to ensure alignment of resources with warrior needs.
- Assist in communication coordination between family member/caregiver, WWP program staff, other external organizations, agencies, and healthcare facilities.
- Collaborate with national IP team to identify and report on national trends, needs of population, and resource development.
- Provide IP briefs (external and internal).
- Identify, develop, conduct, lead, and/or participate in special projects including but not limited to event coordination and planning, training, curriculum development, research, presentations, mentoring, and other programmatic endeavors.
Enrollment and program participation:
- Perform intake processes and conduct interviews and assessments; Provide recommendations regarding enrollment; Collaborate with other teammates and independent contractors regarding enrollment, retention, and overall participation strategies.
- Provide service recommendations to families waiting for enrollment.
- Actively participate in committee assignments.
Case load management:
- Monitor cost levels for assigned cases, identify trends, provide recommendations for improving service delivery, impact of services, and/or strategies for increasing reach/scope of service availability.
- Serve as WWP primary point of contact and work collaboratively with contracted case managers on high-touch support for designated warrior and family systems.
- Maintain and update all WWP electronic tracking systems, specifically the warrior and family member, spouse, and/or caregiver database (Salesforce).
- Other duties as assigned
Educational Background:
Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Rehabilitation Counseling, Case Management or related mental healthcare field.

Education & Experience Requirements
- Four years of experience working with veteran mental health-focused programming or case management may be considered in lieu of the degree requirements
- One year of experience working with military and veteran issues, particularly with brain injury and post-traumatic stress.
Preferences
- Masters degree.
- Two years of experience working with and assisting military and veteran’s population.
- Two years of experience assisting military or veteran populations in support of development and readjustment.
- One year of experience working with brain injury or mental health case management.
Certifications & Licensure
- Certified Brain Injury Specialist (CBIS) credential preferred.
