Senior Director Community Health

The Founders of the American Heart Association is recruiting for a Senior Director - Community Health based in our NYC office. The Senior Director will serve as the “health ” for the market for the AHA’s strategic plan focused on hypertension management, improving nutrition and other key priorities. Supervisory responsibilities may include oversight of the related program staff and/or administrative staff. The Senior Director will support local implementation of national health priorities as identified for the AHA/ASA 2017-2020 strategic plan and collaborate with local staff on the major market goals.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Serving as a subject matter and program expert in the market you will: assist in the recruitment and management of volunteer networks; assess community health needs and develop, coordinate and implement community-wide strategies based on the American Heart Association’s strategic plan; drive collaboration with key health strategies and development staff to achieve mission-related goals; be accountable for both health/mission and revenue goals; articulate the cardiovascular disease health burden in the multicultural community and what AHA is doing to address disparities; andthe collective impact plan to drive impact in the market.
  • You can expect to travel approximately 75% of the time in your territory as well as some travel to regional offices and the National Center in Dallas, TX for meetings and training.
  • In this role, you will report toour VP - Health Strategies in the NYC market. You will have the opportunity to work directly with the development and program staff in the NYC market to drive volunteer and community health engagement in support of our 2020 Impact Goal.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in a community health related discipline. College coursework combined with related experience may be substituted for a degree.
Related experience may be substituted as follows: 1 ½ years experience equates to 1 full time year of higher education.
Skills/Experience: 
  • As the ideal candidate for the Senior Director Community Health position, you should have a minimum of 5 years of experience in: public health education and/or community programs that includes working on community health issues; demonstrated ability to interact across multiple acculturation levels and socio-economic groups; a successful track record of meeting and exceeding goals; demonstrated experience in recruiting, mobilizing, managing and evaluating volunteers up to and including “C” suite level; negotiation and motivational skills and the ability to manage partnerships for health policy changes.
  • Some experience in outside sales would also be beneficial in being able to pitch programs and goals to potential AHA customers. Since this position will supervise other field you will need to possess at least 5 years of experience in a supervisory role.
  • Must have at least 5 years of experience in the implementation of corporate and community-based programs/initiatives and/or community mobilization as well as at least five years or management/supervisory experience. This experience may also count towards satisfying this position’s educational requirement.
