And that day is drawing nearer.The person selected for this role will represent Vermonters Taking Action Against Cancer (VTAAC).  VTAAC offers the power of collaboration to what otherwise might be a lonely fight.Created in 2005, VTAAC is responsible for putting the Vermont Cancer Plan into action by preventing overlap and directing resources to where they matter most in our state. Our activities are focused on reaching our ultimate goal: reducing the burden of cancer in Vermont.  VTAAC is a growing network of groups and individuals that speaks with one voice about reducing cancer risk, detecting cancers earlier, creating better access to quality cancer treatment, and improving the quality of life for cancer survivors.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Coalition Administration:

  • Serve as main point of contact for the coalition.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the coalition.
  • Prepare necessary activity and financial reports for the coalitions’ steering/executive committees.
  • Prepare necessary reports consistent with funding agencies.
  • Work with the VDH Cancer Control Program Coordinator in preparing grant applications as well as required grant reporting.
  • Assure proper notification to coalition memberships of all meetings.
  • Participate in coalition meetings and conference calls.
  • Assure timely completion and distribution of meeting minutes.
  • Maintain records including attendance at committee and workgroup meetings as well as current lists of coalition members.
  • Provide administrative support for coalition committees, workgroups, and taskforces.

Coalition Communications:

  • Represent the coalition in appropriate media, public appearances and networking opportunities and/or work with designated members in representing the coalition.
  • Conduct ongoing outreach to organizations and individuals.
  • Working with the membership, coordinate implementing the activities of the coalition throughout the state.
  • Develop, edit and distribute media pieces, educational and policy materials as directed by coalition steering/executive committees.
  • Manage consistent and ongoing communications with coalition membership including regular communication with coalition co-chairs.
  • Manage coalition web sites/listserves/other on-line communications.
  • Lead ongoing public education on coalition activities and mission.
  • Lead in development and presentation of educational/training programs as required.
  • Work with coalition steering committee in implementing effective communications strategy.
  • Along with coalition co-chairs, speak on behalf of the coalition with all current and potential funding organizations; local, state and national partners; public officials and community leaders.
  • Assist steering/executive committees in developing written strategic plans and timelines to achieve coalition goals.

Coalition Membership

  • Manage coalition annual meeting.
  • Working with coalition committees, recruit new members to maintain, expand and diversify coalition membership.Other duties as directed.
Educational Background: 
BA/BS required OR 3 years of equivalent experience in public health program coordination, management and/or community organizing may be substituted for undergraduate degree.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Experience working in community or public health preferred.
