Senior Associate, Malaria, Global Health

The Senior Associate, Global Health reports to the Director, Global Health, and works closely with the Senior Officer, Global Health and Global Health and Nothing But Nets teams.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Support the implementation of the advocacy, communications, and resource mobilization strategy to advance domestic support for malaria elimination in Haiti with the aim of securing additional global and domestic funding.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with policy makers, decision makers, influencers, technical and advocacy partners working on malaria elimination in Haiti and AIDS, TB and malaria advocacy, including the Malaria Zero Consortium, the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria, the World Bank’s Global Financing Facility, Haitian partners, and Haitian diaspora groups, in order to deliver on project objectives.
  • Cultivate and onboard new advocacy partners to help elevate the quality, strength and capacity of influential advocacy champions for malaria elimination in Haiti.
  • Assist in the management of UN Foundation’s advocacy grants focused on advocacy for malaria elimination in Haiti and the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and malaria to ensure that these partners are accomplishing the goals set through their grant agreements, working with grantees on a variety of processes throughout the grantmaking cycle, including reviewing and processing grant applications; requesting, reviewing and documenting grant reports; sharing information with grantees, and implementing capacity building activities for grantees.
  • Contribute to the development of a range of advocacy and communications products with internal and external counterparts on topics related to AIDS, TB and malaria– including fact sheets, policy briefs, policy papers, talking points, and case studies – with the aim of increasing funding and supportive policies.
  • Manage the execution of high-level advocacy events, with support from Nothing But Nets and Global Health staff as needed.
  • Ensure proper documentation, tracking, and monitoring of grants to UN Foundation and from UN Foundation to grantees with other relevant program, finance, and development staff.
  • Provide input during periodic portfolio reviews and propose strategic course corrections, in partnership with the Director, Global Health, the Senior Officer, Global Health, leadership of the Nothing But Nets, and executive teams.
  • Actively maintain a working knowledge of UNF’s work in global health writ large, and a thorough knowledge of UNF’s work on malaria, and works representing areas of expertise in meetings, events, conferences and other forums.
Educational Background: 
Master’s degree in relevant field preferred (MPH, MPP, MIA).
Skills/Experience: 
  • 4-6 years progressively responsible work experience in the field of public policy, public health or global development, with at least one year of experience primarily focused on resource mobilization or public health financing.
  • Experience working in malaria a plus.
  • English and French fluency required. A working knowledge of Haitian Creole is highly desirable.
  • Experience in Haiti is encouraged, with a preference for an individual who has dealt with and demonstrates passion for health-related matters in the region.
  • Working knowledge of global public health financing mechanisms, including Global Fund, the World Bank, and/or the World Bank’s Global Financing Facility a plus.
  • Experience working with high level decision-makers and their teams.
  • Excellent writing and analytical skills, including the ability to synthesize complex issues into digestible briefings specialist and non-specialist audiences.
  • Ability to drive projects from inception to implementation.
  • Previous experience developing written materials (analyses, reports, talking points, etc.) for senior executives; administering and monitoring commitments to and from external donors.
  • Ability to develop, maintain, and enjoy effective working relationships with people from a wide variety of organizations and with a wide variety of functional expertise.
  • Proven ability to work across departments to accomplish mission;
  • A self-starter with the ability to balance multiple objectives and prioritize projects and tasks.
  • Well-balanced blend of analytical skills, strategic thinking, planning and project management.
