The Centralized Support (CS) team is comprised of experienced American Cancer Society development staff, with an extensive background in fundraising and volunteer management. This team works closely with field staff and volunteers to manage effectively through staff vacancies and maintain income growth during transition.This position serves as an expert in community-based fundraising with responsibility for developing and implementing plans to help sustain and grow event revenue and engagement. This person is responsible for overseeing event portfolio as well as serve as a coach and mentor to both volunteers and staff. In some instances, this position is expected to provide guidance and expertise to help overcome obstacles or handle situations that arise.All of this work is performed remotely, which will require this candidate to manage by influence and motivate volunteers without face-to-face contact pulling from past expertise and sharing what has worked well for others in similar settings.  This person will be charged with maintaining or growing the event until vacancies have been filled. Event portfolios may include, but are not limited to Relay For Life, Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, Distinguished Event and Sport Initiatives.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Actively manage a large portfolio of events and quickly assess immediate and long-term needs which may include, but are not limited to: coaching, mentoring, resources and tools navigation, coordination of meetings, performance tracking, communication plans &event logistics• Maintains relationships and engagement of target partners, organizations, corporations, and individuals; serves as a primary relationship manager to achieve income and mission goals.
  • Engages, recruits, trains and manages relationships with community volunteers to ensure successful event execution.
  • Troubleshoot challenges as they arise and provide guidance and counsel where expertise is needed; certain levels of support may require strategy development to grow events both in income and participation
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with Community Development Managers, Senior Managers, Coordinators and other staff as appropriate as it pertains to assigned portfolios.
  • Ensure compliance with ACS policies, including employment, risk management, financial controls, event and cash handling
  • Responsible for effectively and efficiently completing activities and meeting target deadlines in order to execute successful events.
  • Implements best practices for event revenue growth; drives and encourages creativity and innovation at the event level.
  • Manage temporary and/or part time event staff team to ensure successful events execution (i.e.- for urban model MSABC events).
  • Engages the community to drive increased event participation; including event committee, teams, team members, sponsors, survivor/caregiver engagement, and youth engagement.
  • Utilizes available tools and processes to maximize event results, including online fundraising
  • Models and fosters behavior that establishes a culture that values the staff/volunteer partnership, and is consistent with the values, goals, and objectives of the Society to create an atmosphere of trust, cooperation, accountability, empowerment, and dedication to the mission.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in related field and/or appropriate experience.
Skills/Experience: 
  • 5-7 years of progressive fundraising success and experience
  • Successful track record with effectively motivating and working with staff and volunteers to accomplish goals and objectives
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
