This position is responsible for building support among municipal/county policymakers for Alzheimer's disease as a public health issue. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to, contributing to the implementation and monitoring of the Health Departments' strategic priorities, meeting with officials to relay the importance of prioritizing Alzheimer's disease, leading coalitions of local organizations, recruiting and managing volunteers, and educating chapter staff on the important role public health plays in ending the burden of Alzheimer's disease. The position reports directly to the Manager, Public Policy, and will work with volunteers, community partners, national policy staff, and chapter staff.

- Identify legislative and regulatory opportunities within municipal and state levels to expand the public health realm to include Alzheimer's disease and other dementias
- Compile and analyze background information and monitor trends in the public health field
- Work to implement tactics/activities to increase minority outreach Strategic Leadership
- Along with public policy team, create and update a 3-year strategic plan to grow engagement of public health officials and policy makers with Alzheimer's disease as a public health issue
- Work with other chapters in Florida on statewide public policy priorities & establish a uniform platform Coalition Building and Communication
- Network and develop strong relationships within the community, among organizations, and with policy makers and government officials
- Represent chapter at and facilitate community coalitions to build strategic alliances
- Develop and deliver professional presentations
- Write and edit a wide array of communications for internal and external audiences, such as newsletter articles, meeting highlights, website content, toolkits, and case studies Administrative and General Chapter Responsibilities
- Train chapter staff on public health issues at local, state, and federal levels • Identifying funding opportunities/grants for public health activities related to Alzheimer's disease
- Maintain monthly reports, service statistics, and grant-related paperwork
- Represent public policy team and participate in chapter events and fundraisers
- The coordinator of Public Health must have a deep understanding of public health as well as municipal and state governments; have experience in the policy aspects of public health; and be able to demonstrate the strategic thinking, judgment, and management skills necessary to direct a program.
- Bachelor's degree required (or equivalent work experience); health education certification a plus
- One to three years of professional experience in a nonprofit or in state or local government
- Superior ability to communicate verbally and in writing in English; preferred bilingual Spanish
- Computer skills necessary for communication, record keeping, and report generation; with proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google applications; ability to learn new database software
- Valid driver's license and proof of valid insurance, as outreach activities require use of own vehicle
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Based in a Southeast Florida Chapter office (i.e. Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach County offices)
- Position operates in a flexible work environment; requires significant travel through 7-county area
- Position requires flexibility to work evenings and weekends to meet community needs; frequent irregular hours, high volume of public contact
