The Development Associate is responsible for 1) maintaining the donor database (GiftWorks) and for donor research and analysis; 2) providing ongoing administrative support to the Executive Director and Board of Directors; and, 3) organizing and staffing all development events.  Projects include the annual appeal, the fall donor appreciation event, special concert receptions and the annual gala.  The Associate works closely with Marketing to ensure timely production of mailings and event collateral.  The position must present a positive image of CSMA in all internal and external contacts all times.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Manages the donor database.  Ensures that donor acknowledgements are processed within 48 business hours from gift receipt. Generates detailed donation reports and gift analysis. Reconciles monthly with Finance. Maintains key donor and grant files. 
  • Provides administrative support for the Executive Director, including correspondence, calendaring, word processing and spreadsheet production. Provides administrative support for Board of Directors, including taking minutes at the monthly board meetings, calendaring, and committee meetings.
  • Works with the Director of Community Engagement to support donor development activities, including researching prospects, developing donor cultivation strategies and spearheading donor mailings.
  • Organizes and staffs development events and receptions. Manages event volunteers.
  • Other special projects as assigned.
Educational Background: 
College degree
Skills/Experience: 
  • At least two years of development work, including donor database management.
  • Impeccable attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to deal effectively with donors, staff, board and volunteers.
  • Strong time management, project management and organizational skills.
  • Flexible, proactive, creative, problem-solving attitude.
  • High‐level computer literacy skills. Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and a leading donor database.
  • Position requires organizing and leading CSMA events, some of which take place during evenings and weekends.
  • Enthusiasm for the arts and education.
