Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) is seeking a Specialist - ReStore Safety Program. The Specialist - ReStore Safety Program will be responsible for supporting HFHI and its US affiliates on all safety matters impacting the ReStore/retail operations of US affiliates. As the organization's lead on OSHA compliance for this sector, the Specialist will coordinate and update training materials and content so all HFHI efforts remain current to industry safety standards and relevant to the Habitat ReStore system. The Specialist will work to make resources and support available to affiliates and will promote safety standards in US Habitat ReStore operations and facilities. The Specialist will be responsible for reporting on activities and outcomes related to safety training, loss prevention and program improvements.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • By collaborating with U.S. Affiliate and ReStore leaders, internal HFHI team members and other subject matter experts, develop strategies/tools for safety and loss control
  • Continually update, refine and implement HFHI's formalized safety training program for U.S. affiliates' ReStore operations, including processes and procedures that will ultimately reduce accidents at affiliate operations.
  • Act as a content developer and trainer of ReStore safety best practices and industry standards for in-person and virtual learning opportunities.
  • Lead the efforts toward awareness, engagement and continued development of ReStore safety program training
  • Work with internal HFHI team members, insurance carrier and broker to develop and implement dedicated safety/loss control procedures, protocols, plans, tools, templates, trainings, risk management articles, and other resources for U.S. affiliates in the following areas:
    • Safety/loss control in a retail environment
    • Warehousing
    • Fleet vehicle operations
    • Handling of hazardous materials, including asbestos and lead paint
    • Demolition/deconstruction
    • Volunteer and employee coordination
  • Conduct periodic site safety visits/ audits at U.S. affiliate ReStores independently and/or with insurance carrier or via safety program volunteer network
  • Work with the HFHI ReStore support team to provide safety/loss control matters guidance to U.S. affiliates on an individual basis
  • Work with insurance carrier and broker to track claims and identify trends.
  • Working with insurance carrier and internal HFHI guidance, follow up with U.S. affiliate ReStores on major accidents
  • Work with HFHI Legal Department on insurance matters, legal issues and claims oversight
  • By working with internal team members and attending internal HFHI training opportunities, maintain knowledge and awareness of Habitat ReStore operational and management best practices
  • Maintain current proficiency and certification in applicable OSHA regulations and designations
  • Provide reporting to various HFHI teams that pertains to ReStore safety/loss control program, general statistics
Educational Background: 
Bachelors Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
Skills/Experience: 
  • 2-3 years in retail operations, preferrably dedicated to safety/risk management/loss control with a substantial retail focused organization, Habitat affiliate ReStore or related "big box" retail entity
  • OSHA 30
  • Excellent written and oral communications.
  • Proficient in the use of MS office suite
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • 20% Travel
  • OSHA 500 and 510 (will be required in first 90 days)
  • Prior Habitat experience preferred
  • Additional OSHA certifications
