Habitat for Humanity International(HFHI) is seeking a talented professional for our Director – Advocacy Campaigns position. A critical part of increasing sector and societal impact (as outlined in the HFHI strategic plan) is advocacy work. This work will help Habitat to further shape society’s thinking around housing issues and influence policies that affect affordable housing. Habitat aspires to be a premier expert in affordable housing, with affiliates and states having powerful strategies for local advocacy. To this end, Habitat will launch a national advocacy campaign to ensure that no one has to pay more than half of his/her income on housing.
The Director – Advocacy Campaigns, will be responsible for overseeing advocacy campaigns implemented by HFHI. This position will lead Habitat for Humanity International's advocacy campaigns by working closely with the Government Relations and Advocacy Office, Atlanta office and the full Habitat network to develop and implement advocacy campaigns and strengthen Habitat's voice and advocacy efforts through measurable results.
- Design and implement a 4-year advocacy campaign for the Habitat network of affiliates, including structure, enrollment process, and launch.
- Help leverage the U.S. campaign to influence a national-level discussion on housing affordability.
- Lead efforts to build field capacity to implement campaigns at all levels.
- Mobilize the Habitat network to engage existing and new supporters in support of policies and systems that access to housing.
- Manage the strategic wind-down of Solid Ground, Habitat’s global advocacy campaign.
- Support and provide strategic leadership for other Habitat network campaign efforts, as appropriate.
- Ensure alignment of and learning from advocacy campaigns.
- Must have advocacy campaigning experience
- 8-10+ years of relevant experience
- Travel: 20%
- Deep knowledge and experience re: communications of a campaign, both to an affiliate network and the public
- Excellent communicator across all types of written and oral communications
- Comfortable with a fast pace and rapidly changing environment; able to learn quickly and handle ambiguity
- Excellent supervisor; able to deploy, motivate and develop a team to accomplish certain objectives
- Track record of strong collaboration and communication across teams and departments
- Strong project leadership skills: able to bring together the right people to solve a problem, able to manage multiple strands of work towards an overall objective
- Experience working on multi-faceted advocacy campaigns.
- Experience in using quantitative and qualitative analyses methods to assess campaign effectiveness and recalibrate if necessary
- Understanding of how to use policy analysis, research, lobbying, public campaigning, media, communications and alliance building to influence the political agenda.
- Strong interpersonal skills and consensus building with an ability to manage complex and sensitive organizational relationships.
- Highly proficient at establishing strong partnerships across organizations and engaging stakeholders at all levels to achieve optimal outcomes.
- Ability to meet tight deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
