Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Create and maintain Construction schedule. Ensure the Family Services family selection and preparation for home ownership coincides or “meshes” with the Construction schedule. The Director of Operations needs to ensure that a finished home matches with a prepared family.
  • Ensure Development raises money needed for home completion as scheduled. Interface with the Development team to make sure that fundraising, in-kind donations and grant awards are sufficient for the needs of Construction as per the Construction schedule.
  • Coordinate with outsourced grant writer. Interface with our outsourced grant writer to ensure that grants deadlines are met and that the grant request is written with excellence. Review all grants. Research for additional grant opportunities consistent with our mission.
  • Ensure land is ready for scheduled builds. Lead the land procurement and development effort so that buildable land is always available as needed. Work with Finance to ensure land procurement is included in budget and is accounted for in our cash-flow plan. Work with consultants and contractors to ensure subdivision/partitioning of land is on track as planned.
  • Help build homes. Time allowing, work as part of the construction team to build homes.
  • Help Executive Director with budget and strategic plan. Work closely with the Executive Director in the budgeting process and the strategic planning process.
  • Attend staff meetings and Board meetings as required. Be prepared to make presentations to Board of Directors as needed.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in Business or Nonprofit Management desired.
Skills/Experience: 
  • 3 years of leadership experience, special consideration for work experience with Habitat for Humanity.
  • Residential construction experience, with understanding of the complete home-construction process.
  • Strong relationship building and communication (oral/written) skills
  • Self-starter with ability to work independently and with staff and volunteers
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to develop staff and volunteers through example and training programs.
  • Successful applicant must have extremely strong people skills, being able to work with a variety of departments and people types to lead them to a common goal.
  • This person must also have hands-on construction experience. And this person must know how to use the MS Office suite of products, be an excellent communicator, and understand budgeting and cash-flow management processes. Most of all, this person must be teachable and passionate about the mission of Habitat for Humanity.This is an exempt position.
