Manager, Legislative Content & Partnerships

The Manager, Legislative Content and Partnerships will use a wide range of analytic, written, and communications skills to help develop and implement content tools to support legislative campaigns that increase both private and government food and funds for network members. The content and partnership goals will help support legislation, federal regulations and laws that support reducing domestic hunger, with special emphasis on federal nutrition programs, and increases awareness and knowledge of Feeding America as the leading authority on hunger and hunger-related issues.

  • Working with the Managing Director of Nutrition and Ag Government Relations for legislative strategic direction and in consultation with the Policy Director for policy analysis, manage the creation of blogs, newsletters, and other educational materials that can be used by the Feeding America network, FANO, and other partners to increase support for federal nutrition programs and FANO legislative priorities.  Coordinate with Advocacy team on resource needs.
  • Working with the Managing Director of Tax, Public Policy, and Government Relations for legislative strategic direction and in consultation with the Policy Director for policy analysis, manage the creation of blogs, newsletters, and other educational materials that can be used by the Feeding America network, FANO, and other partners to increase support for FA legislative priorities in the areas of appropriations, budget, and tax legislation. Coordinate with Advocacy team on resource needs.
  • Manage and update the federal nutrition program data in the legislative database.
  • In consultation with the Policy Director and other staff, track, create, and disseminate summaries of key federal and state legislative proposals to the Feeding America network, and manage the creation of state fact sheets for use with Congress and the Feeding America network.
  • Work with the Policy Director and Manager of Government Relations to develop fact sheets and other network and Hill-facing advocacy materials based on more detailed and technical policy resources.  Manage updates of materials on an ongoing basis.
  • Monitor media and research outlets, listservs, and other communication sources for information of relevance to nutrition assistance programs, budget policy, hunger, and poverty.
  • Lobby at the federal government level in support of legislative and regulatory actions that increase food, funds and resources for Feeding America members, and represent Feeding America in other external and partnership meetings.
  • Assist Managing Director, Ag & Nutrition Government Relations in managing Farm Bill reauthorization process, track Hill meetings, resources, and feedback. 
  • Provide regular and timely communication and education to network members regarding legislation and public policy.
  • Assist network with state-level advocacy with input from Policy Director.
  • Manage coalition relationships as directed.

Educational Background: 
BA/BS in Political Science, Government Affairs, Public Policy, Sociology, Communications or Social Work or related experience.
Skills/Experience: 
  • 7+ years’ experience in public policy with an emphasis on federal nutrition programs, budget or poverty policy required.
  • Must have expertise in charitable feeding organizations, Capitol Hill, federal government or issue advocacy organizations.
  • Strong preference for candidates that have direct experience with advocacy at a food bank or emergency feeding organization.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong understanding of the federal legislative and regulatory process and congressional committee structure.
  • Ability to think creatively and strategically as part of a team and within broad coalitions.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications.
  • Committed to organizational mission of ending hunger.
