Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) is currently seeking a dedicated professional to join our team as the Associate Director - Government Relations. 

Reporting to the Director of State & Local Relations, the Associate Director - Government Relations will support Habitat for Humanity's U.S. government relations and advocacy efforts to advance public policies at the local, state and federal levels in order to eliminate barriers to adequate, affordable housing. This position is based in HFHI's Washington, D.C.Government Relations and Advocacy office.

Areas of Responsibility: 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Identify and analyze state and local legislation, laws, and regulations affecting affordable housing and Habitat affiliated organizations
  • Help facilitate the engagement of affiliated organizations in state and local policy to increase their ability to serve families
  • Assist and respond to needs of Habitat affiliated organizations in creating, leading, and participating in state and local legislative campaigns to address issues impacting affiliates' ability to serve families
  • Support the federal relations staff on policy analysis, lobbying, coalition engagement, and building the advocacy capacity of the affiliated network on federal housing issues
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for affiliate affinity workgroups by organizing and facilitating webinars, conference calls and meetings
  • Identify, create content for, and provide affiliate trainings for Habitat on the Hill and other national and state conferences
  • Support the implementation and Habitat affiliate engagement in the upcoming U.S. advocacy campaign
  • Contribute policy content for advocacy newletters, trainings and online resources
  • Support mobilization and communications efforts on key policy issues at all levels of government
Educational Background: 
Bachelors Degree
Skills/Experience: 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • 5 to 7 years experience working in State and Local Policy advocacy and/or development
  • Knowledge of affordable housing and/or community development policy and programs
  • Excellent written & verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Effective listener and the ability to build collaborative relationships
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills with the ability to priotitize and complete time sensitive projects
  • Excellent interpersonal and relational skills with the ability to work in a small-office environment
  • Strong computer/database experience
