The Director of Data Services understands business problems and opportunities in the context of the requirements and recommends solutions that enable the organization to realize a return on its data strategy. This position manages the design and enhancement of the data and technical architecture of the Business Intelligence and Data Warehouse environments, sets the strategy for the overall data pipeline, and ensures data operations are secure and efficient. The Director of Data Services is a key role in the execution of the overall Data Strategy as set forth by the VP of Architecture and Data Management.
- Direct the strategy and design of data and technical architecture of enterprise-wide Business Intelligence Solutions including Business Objects universes.
- Resource and Demand Management for multiple resource teams including ETL Development, Database Engineering, Database Administration, and Data Warehouse Development.
- Generate BI strategy and execute the overall Data Strategy via management of the Enterprise Business Intelligence Suite, currently Business Objects 4.2.
- Manage client relationships, communications; work closely with Global Headquarters business leads, and regions regarding Business Intelligence Solutions needs.
- Ensure that business process changes are integrated into code and reports.
- Design robust, sustainable architecture that supports requirements and provides for expansion.
- Design high volume data loads, and security, storage and performance strategies and implementations.
- Manage documentation and operational processes for Business Intelligence and Data Warehousing.
- Review individual and team performance, maintaining overall departmental performance management goals, and directing changes as necessary.
- Manage selection of hardware, storage, and software products for Business Objects, ETL, Data Development, Data Warehousing and other Business Intelligence products.
- Serve as subject matter expert for determining escalation strategy involving both internal and external support teams depending on the type and severity of the problem.
- Research existing and new features of data and BI tools to develop recommended implementation strategies and techniques along with assessing the performance and capacity requirements of the reporting technologies.
- Ensure proper design reviews and guidance is performed for all Data and BI projects across the enterprise.
- Provide consultation to others in analyzing and resolving difficult problems involving any part of BI or Data applications.
- 8+ years designing and managing data solutions (marts, warehouses, databases) utilized in corporate reporting or analytics.
- 5+ years combination of Oracle PL/SQL and Microsoft Transact-SQL scripting and performance tuning.
- 5+ years of solid Business Objects administration, advanced report writing, and universe design/development experience.
- 5+ years of progressive management experience across the data warehousing and business intelligence disciplines
- 2+ years of solid ETL experience in major toolset such as SSIS, Oracle Data Integrator, Informatica, PL/SQL or Transact SQL.Demonstrates Information Technology Competencies

Specialized Knowledge:
- Advanced knowledge of PL/SQL, Transact-SQL, data modeling, physical database design, administration, analytics and performance tuning
- Advanced Excel knowledge is required.
- Advanced Business Objects or other Business Intelligence reporting tool required.
- Siebel, Salesforce, Lawson and Netsuite knowledge a strong plus.
