The Sr. Investment Officer, Innovative Finance, will contribute to work involving innovative financial mechanisms within the foundation’s program areas as an embedded member of the Finance & Strategy team.
Location
The preference is for this role to be based in the Seattle, WA office. However, we’re open to the role being in our Washington D.C. office as an alternative option.
Areas of Responsibility:
Core Responsibilities
- Coordinate and lead IFI activity within the program area and support senior foundation leadership in its evaluation of opportunities involving innovative financial mechanisms.
- Research and provide input into cross-cutting investment strategies and specific investment opportunities as part of regular program processes including strategic planning and pipeline reviews in consultation with other foundation teams.
- Educate program officers about the IFI program, investment uses-cases and best practices as part of onboarding and strategy review activities.
- Manage external relationships with key contacts in development finance institutions and social investment partners that are active in the program area.
- Support deal teams in close collaboration with program, legal and other colleagues, including initial screening, investment structuring, due diligence and financial modeling of specific transactions.
- Undertake financial and risk analysis on investments and present investments to the foundation’s Investment Committee.
- Support program leadership in managing its IFI portfolio and act as interface between the program team and foundation investment committee with regards to risk exposure and investment performance.
- This role is responsible for high quality interactions and clear and consistent communications with grantees and partners in the field.
Educational Background:
Advanced degree in economics, business administration or related field
Skills/Experience:
Core Knowledge and Skills
- Negotiations expertise involving complex financial transactions, public-private partnerships, and sovereign governments
- Financial analysis and modeling expertise
- Knowledge of various loan and guaranty financial structures
- Expertise in financial and legal due diligence of complex financial transactions
- Demonstrated ability to support deal teams and gain the respect of others
- Knowledge of global health and development
- Interest in working with developing countries, ideally with previous transaction experience and exposure to the subject areas of focus for the foundation
- Work experience requiring effective support of a highly skilled and demanding client base, serving as counselor on ground-breaking, emerging strategic and financial issues in a complex and evolving policy environment
- Intellectual quickness, curiosity, discipline, resourcefulness and resilience
- Ability to work with flexibility, efficiency, enthusiasm, and diplomacy both individually and as part of a team effort

Education and Experience
- A minimum of 8 years’ experience with a multilateral development bank, development finance institution, other financial institution, or management consulting firm
Compensation/Benefits:
This is a Limited Term Employee role as part of our parental leave program and targeted for 15-18 months starting in October/November 2017, however the start and end dates for this assignment may change.
