The Director of Philanthropy creates and oversees the implementation of a strategic approach to fundraising within private Philanthropy division.
The Director of Philanthropy is responsible for the oversight, planning and implementation of a comprehensive fundraising program that secures the significant financial resources from individuals to support YKAN Strategic Plan. S/he will work towards meeting the strategic priorities of the program by conceiving, developing, and managing plans and strategies. S/he focuses on long-range strategic priorities and establish and monitor activity level benchmarks and measures of success. S/he serves as the primary owner for business processes and guidelines related to the work of the teams under his/her supervision. S/he manages the development and implementation of a strategic, integrated, and collaborative approach to maximize success, including organizing communications. S/he facilitates strategic dialogues with clients and senior-level stakeholders, probing to identify key issues and requirements, negotiating and developing solutions, and synthesizing a plan of action tailored to audience.
The Director of Philanthropy is responsible for a portfolio of qualified donors and building strong relationships. Her/his responsibility includes increasing funding from high net-worth individuals through effective identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship. S/he understands and applies complex principles of developing donor strategies and builds strong relationships with a portfolio of new donors and prospects. The Director of Philanthropy provides opportunities for donors to receive recognition and increase future giving. S/he involves and engages appropriate partners in the field and at the Worldwide Office, keeping them apprised of interactions, issues and/or concerns, and addresses questions as needed. S/he is capable of featuring the programs in detailed terms and can confidently discuss legacy giving opportunities. S/he is required to develop proposals. The Director of Philanthropy develops and manages resources and budget of the philanthropy department and ensure efficient and effective use of the approved budget. S/he manages relations with key stakeholders including senior management, internal teams, and outside service providers to achieve program goals.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE
- Broad management responsibility for a department and five or more administrative and/or professional staff, including recruitment, retaining, professional development, establishing clear directions, and setting “stretch” objectives.
- Design and direct complex and diversified projects, coordinating the work of other professionals, managing budget, and ensuring program accountability.
- Develop and administer budget, evaluate results and develop corrective strategies as needed.
- Direct or participate in negotiations for complex, high profile or sensitive agreements.
- Ensure that programmatic commitments, YKAN policies and procedures, and financial standards are met and managed for ethical compliance.
- Lead strategic initiatives through collaboration with senior-level stakeholders in order to enhance overall performance in accordance with short and long-term objectives.
- Maintain confidentiality of frequently sensitive and emotionally charged information.
- Make strategic decisions; decisions made may have program-wide impact and may bind the organization financially or legally.
- Minimize legal risk to the Conservancy and ensure legal compliance with applicable state and local regulations.
- Plan and lead new programs/initiatives that will ensure department and organization-wide goals are achieved.
- Responsibility and accountability for meeting strategic goals and objectives.
- Travel frequently and on short notice, work long hours and weekends.
- Work environment involves only infrequent exposure to disagreeable elements and minor physical exertion and/or strain.
- The Director of Philanthropy reports to the Country Director and is based in Jakarta, Indonesia.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- At least 8 years related experience like Marketing and/or Fundraising, including experience working at a senior level.
- Experience with business development, banking, corporate social responsibility or corporate sustainability.
- Knowledge on environment issues
- Experience building and maintaining long-term relationships with fundraising constituents such as major donors and corporations.
- Experience preparing and presenting project proposals and negotiating complex high profile or sensitive agreements.
- Experience in conceiving, developing, and managing multiple projects and strategic goals.
- Experience in planning and delivering budgetary responsibilities.
- Experience managing and supervising a multidisciplinary team.
- Experience working in a large, complex, not-for-profit environment.
