Becket-Chimney Corners YMCA, a leading residential camp and outdoor center in the Berkshires, is seeking a full-time Director of the Annual Fund and Constituent Relations.  Working with the Chief Development Officer, this person will develop strategies and implement tactics to successfully increase philanthropic support to the Annual Fund from key constituencies. The successful candidate will be responsible for not only overseeing and executing our $850,000 Annual Fund campaign but also developing a constituent relations program that will attract, engage, cultivate, and steward current and prospective donors.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Annual Fund 

  • Manage and execute all aspects of Becket-Chimney Corners YMCA’s Annual Fund campaign to meet the annual financial goal with a longer term Strategic Plan goal to reach $1 Million by 2020.
  • Consult with the Chief Development Officer to strategize annual campaign fund-raising efforts and set annual development goals.
  • Implement a comprehensive strategic plan of action to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward donors to meet and exceed annual financial and participation goals.
  • Manage a portfolio of leadership level prospects with $1,000 and larger annual giving potential, spending 20% of time traveling.
  • Organize annual fund solicitations, including timing and nature of appeals and writing copy.
  • Oversee alumni reunion giving outreach and capstone giving programs for parents.
  • Create and monitor metrics to share with volunteers and Board of Trustees indicating Annual Fund campaign progress.
  • Direct and manage Annual Fund campaign volunteer leadership.
  • In collaboration with Chief Development Officer, develop and implement a comprehensive stewardship plan, including both formal and informal stewardship action plans, that communicates donor impact, builds relationships and develops opportunities for further engagement.
  • Work with Stewardship and Advancement Services Specialist to ensure prompt acknowledgement system, periodically reviewing methods and policies for accuracy, efficiency, and legal/regulatory requirements. Work closely with department team members to refresh acknowledgment language on a regular basis to engage, inspire, and educate donors.
  • Engage in on-going professional development activities to hone skills.

 Constituent Relations  

  • Lead the Alumni Council and Young Alumni Action Group in alumni relations programming through outreach and ongoing communication.
  • Execute development-related events (phone-a-thons, engagement events, etc.), utilizing volunteer participation where appropriate.
  • Act as development liaison to parent committees for Camp Becket and Chimney Corners Camp.
  • Collaborate with Executive Directors of camps, Berkshire Outdoor Center, and Travel and Service Programs on events, alumni and parent engagement and other joint programs.
  • Collaborate with Chief Development Officer in developing copy for BCCYMCA News, the annual report and other donor, alumni and parent communications including the development website and social media.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree required
Skills/Experience: 
  • Five (5) years of professional experience in Annual Fund or related fundraising programs, preferably in an independent school or higher education setting.
  • Proven track record of developing and growing successful fundraising and stewardship initiatives.
  • Proven ability to make face-to-face visits for donor qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.  Some travel and weekend work is required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; an ability to develop strong relationships and motivate and cultivate volunteers and donors.
  • Capacity to motivate a community to further engage in a culture of philanthropy.
  • Strong and clear communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Ability to multitask, organize and prioritize in order to meet deadlines and goals.
  • Excellent command of office technology tools including fundraising management tools (Raiser’s Edge preferred).
  • A sense of humor, collaborative spirit, and strong team ethic
