Executive Director

The Executive Director serves as the chief executive and clinical leader of the Adirondack Samaritan Counseling Center. Appointed by the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible for the overall leadership, administration, financial health, and programmatic excellence of the Center. This role ensures that ASCC fulfills its mission of providing professional counseling and education grounded in the resources of faith.


The Executive Director hires, supervises, and supports staff; oversees counseling and educational services; manages operations and finances; and works collaboratively with the Board to guide strategy, fundraising, and organizational development. As the Center grows, responsibilities may be delegated to administrative or program staff under the Executive Director’s leadership.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Executive Leadership


• Promoting the vision and mission of the Center
• Identifying long-term and short-term Center needs while developing strategies and planning to meet those needs
• Meeting with the Board of Directors and advisory committees on a regular basis regarding the status and health of the Center
• Communication with the board regarding the annual budget and fiscal operations
• Coordination with the board and/or professional consultant(s) on fund development, including the provision of grants and other sources of funding
• Assisting the board in continually reviewing and, as needed, revising or formulating new Center policy
• Building and maintaining Center relationships with partner and supporting institutions


Administration


• Oversight and general management of Center administration
• Meeting regularly with and supporting the administrative staff to execute the Center's goals and objectives
• Maintaining personnel records, conducting annual staff reviews and coordinating Human Resource needs
• Ensuring that administrative staff have annual, accurate, signed, employment agreements
• Hiring, assigning, supervising, evaluating and discharging employees and representatives of the Center
• Developing and enabling succession plans for key positions
• Maintaining compliance with federal, state and local labor laws to protect the Center’s non-profit status
• Ensure the Center achieves and maintains necessary and desirable certifications and accreditations, notably in coordination with the Solihten Institute
• Ensuring HIPAA Security Rule policies are implemented and met
• Facilities management


Program and Services

• Supporting the clinical direction of the center, including both in-house and remote counselors providing therapy services
• Full or shared supervision of program staff and coordination of clinical staff meetings and appointments
• Full or shared coordination of consultation and educational service

• Full or shared formulation of counseling policies and procedures
• Full or shared management of clinical records


Finances and Funding


• Ownership of the annual budget, financial status and fiscal operations
• Supervising accurate and sound financial records and reporting
• Determining staff compensation for review and approval
• Developing and executing both short and long term fiscal strategies and fundraising, fund development, the provision of grants and other sources of funding for review & approval by the Board
• Providing necessary reporting on the Center’s assets and liabilities, incomes and expenses and overall funding as needed for review and approval by the Board of Directors


Marketing and Public Relations
 

• Identifying and coordinating marketing and public relations needs and objectives of the Center
• Representing and promoting the Center to the larger community
• Building relationships with area congregations as well as partner and affiliated organizations


*Based on the needs of the Center over time certain executive, administrative and program functions of the Center may be delegated to other persons

*This position may or may not have clinical responsibilities, in addition to the responsibilities listed

Skills/Experience: 

• Advanced qualifications in Business management or as a staff therapist and/or pastoral counselor
• Knowledge and experience in the management of a nonprofit organization
• Proven experience as an organizer and leader of a staff team with the ability to delegate work to other persons with successful supervision
• Experience in the field of mental health, preferably experience as a senior therapist or credentialed counselor
• A working knowledge of religion and the psychology of pastoral counseling
• Ability to personally meet or understand the requirements for the position of a clinical counselor, pastoral advisor or counselor or staff therapist at an advanced level
• A mature integration of faith commitment along with therapy practice
• Ability to work collaboratively with religious leaders, congregations and other community sponsors and resource persons

Compensation/Benefits: 

Compensation to the Executive Director consists of a base salary range of $70,000-$80,000 with provisions for health insurance, an IRA, personal/vacation time and the potential of other allowances.
