The RISE Together Fund (RTF) (formerly known as the Security & Rights Collaborative) is a collaborative grantmaking program supporting a diverse field of organizations working to address profiling, discrimination, hate crimes, anti-Muslim bigotry and xenophobia. Through strategic grantmaking, programming, and field coordination, the RTF works to build the capacity of organizations representing MASA communities to protect rights, advance policy reform, and shift the narrative around issues at the core of our democracy and society.

The Opportunity    

Under the supervision of the Director of the RISE Together Fund (RTF) this position provides grantmaking, development, and administrative assistance to the Director and the RTF team to ensure the team meets its objectives. The Program Assistant is a key role on the RTF team that will provide research and logistical support, communicate with a diverse group of external and internal partners, and plan, prioritize and execute a diversified workload. This is an entry-level position that will allow the Program Assistant to build knowledge about a philanthropic organization that works with a diverse field of grantees and partners in a dynamic environment.

This full-time, 40 hour per week position reports to the Director and is located in Washington, DC. 

 

Areas of Responsibility: 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Program and Partnership Support

  • Drafts and posts content for website and social media updates.
  • With Grants Management team, supports the grant making process, including managing the docket preparation process for grant docket meetings as well as all onsite logistics at docket meetings including meeting space, audiovisual needs, RSVP lists and name tags, and refreshments.
  • Provides research support to the Officer for Partnerships, including preparing for donor meetings and researching funding prospects.
  • Attend external events such as Congressional hearings, grantee events, and philanthropic events in the greater D.C. area and report findings back to the team.
  • Builds a working knowledge on the substance, dynamics and priorities within the field of national security, racial justice and civil rights and demonstrates sensitivity and cultural competency related to the work of the MASA field.

Administrative Support

  • Schedules and organizes activities such as meetings, travel, conferences and department activities for the Director as well as team level meetings.  
  • Establishes, develops, maintains and updates department data base and files, including donor and grantee information, MailChimp lists, meeting notes and other document templates.
  • Prepares written responses or replies for the Director by phone or e-mail when necessary. Responds to regularly occurring requests for information.
  • Acts as a liaison with other departments such as Grants Management and Finance. Handles confidential information.
  • Works independently and within a team on special and ongoing projects. Acts as project manager for special projects, at the request of the director which may include: planning and coordinating events, trainings or presentations, disseminating information, coordinating mailings and emails.

Finance & Operations Support

  • In collaboration with RTF Director, monitors the annual budget for the RTF team, including grantmaking budgets, program expenses and cash flow.
  • Drafts department contracts and works with external contractors to ensure payment and contract execution.
  • Completes expense reports for RTF Director and supports grantees and external parties with expense reimbursements.

External & Internal Communications

  • Working with the RTF team, writes and edits promotional materials and other communications for RTF including grantee stories and website and social media updates on RTF activities for internal and external audiences.
  • Drafts, edits and designs correspondence using MailChimp to send e-blast to external audiences, including invitations to docket meetings and funder briefings, announcements and key updates.
Skills/Experience: 

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES

  • Attention to detail and experience providing administrative support;
  • Research and writing skills tailored for a professional audience;
  • Good problem-solving instincts;
  • Versatility, adaptability and ability to multi-task in a team-focused, and fast-paced environment;
  • Experience with basic financial management and budgeting;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook (mail and calendar);
  • Time management and personal organization;
  • Strong verbal and excellent writing skills;
  • Maturity in dealing with sensitive and sometimes difficult subjects impacting a diverse set of communities in the U.S.;
  • Experience working in or with the MASA community.          

PREFERRED COMPETENCIES

•      Development/fundraising, grant writing and program development experience a plus;

•      Experience working with Podio or similar fundraising/data management systems;

•      Knowledge of Adobe Suite (Photoshop, InDesign);

•      Website and social media experience;

•      Basic publication design/layout experience.

Compensation/Benefits: 

The Proteus Fund offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience and a comprehensive, progressive benefit program to attract, retain, and motivate a high-performing and dedicated workforce. The starting salary is $20 per hour and may be negotiated based on experience.
