The Tech Product Owner plays a pivotal role as a champion and leader in our efforts to realize our tech product vision by:
- Facilitating prioritization and decision-making to deliver tech-enabled solutions that are intuitive, engaging, impactful for educators
- Connecting and translating NTC’s educator stakeholder and business needs into a product backlog guiding Agile development
- Collaborating with and managing internal teams and vendors, using Agile rituals with development teams (release planning, demos, sprint reviews, backlog grooming)
Key Responsibilities & Essential Functions:
The following is an overview of the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. The employee may perform other duties as required.
- Understand and prioritize business needs to optimize functionality delivered to clients across key NTC initiatives
- Facilitate solutions to complex business problems by applying Agile development experience in the context of NTC people, process, and business cases
- Define epics, user stories, features and acceptance criteria and implement to deliver expected results tied to broader goals while paying attention to detail but also keeping the big picture in mind
- Define and manage the release plan and prioritize the backlog; make critical decisions regarding functionality and priority within sprints based in team input
- Serve as the point of contact between development team, NTC SMEs, project managers, and business leads
- Model leadership with effective communication, facilitation, decision-making, and execution
- 2+ years of project management experience (preferred PMP certification)
- 2+ years of product owner experience (preferred certification in Agile software development)
- Excellent written and verbal skills, with an ability to be clear, concise, and relevant across a diverse set of contexts, roles, and stakeholders
- Demonstrated track record of coordinating, organizing, and providing direction for a geographically-dispersed team (including effective use of project management and product management apps)
- Strong analytical ability to translate business requirements into technical concepts and vice versa
- Ability to pick up technical and business concepts quickly, and apply to education content
- Ability to organize, plan, and change course: must be able to prioritize, identify root causes, solve problems quickly and creatively, and hold the line on decision making
- Track record for continuous improvement: ability to challenge yourself and challenge the “ways things have always been done” to improve the product, process, and experience
