Junior Research Associate

This job is no longer available

New York, NY, USA
Full-time

Glass Frog Solutions is a small team of mixed-methods researchers and project managers who are deeply committed to using research and evaluation methods to drive decision making for nonprofit organizations. We take a consultative approach to helping our clients with their research and evaluation needs, which run the gamut from facilitating one-time focus groups to conducting multi-year, multi-site quasi-experimental studies. Our clients range from small, early-stage nonprofits to larger-scale, established organizations who are tackling a wide range of social and economic problems. Our team loves to apply their expertise and creatively address the challenges and constraints that come with doing research “in the wild.”

Glass Frog is a small organization (4 full-time staff and anywhere from 1 – 5 hourly staff depending on the time of year). The team is geographically distributed (i.e., not co-located in an office). The candidate should have a home office and be comfortable working from there full time, except for field work and in-person meetings. The position will require travel to schools and clients’ offices throughout NYC. We use a combination of Zoom, Slack, and phone meetings to stay connected daily.

Areas of Responsibility:

We are seeking a full-time (30 to 40 hours per week) Research Associate (RA) to support a portfolio of education-related clients, which includes three multi-year, federally-funded independent evaluations. The RA is expected to work on multiple projects simultaneously, balancing responsibilities and prioritizing deadlines across projects. The RA will perform a range of activities related to conducting studies and supporting consulting projects. Specific responsibilities are as follows:

  • Assisting in all stages of research and evaluation studies including obtaining consent from study participants of all ages;
  • Conducting field work such as observations, interviews, and co-facilitating focus groups;
  • Programming and administering surveys (paper and electronic);
  • Cleaning and coding qualitative data and assisting with data analysis and report writing;
  • Assisting with developing theories of change and measurement and evaluation tools;
  • Providing general scheduling and data management assistance;
  • Reporting to the principal investigator or project manager for the specific projects he/she is supporting.
Skills/Experience:

The ideal candidate must have experience using qualitative methods, prior experience working with/in NYC public schools, and strong interpersonal skills. This is an excellent opportunity for an early stage professional who is seeking to gain practical experience in the fields of research and program evaluation.

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, sociology, social psychology, or an adjacent field plus at least 2 years of professional work experience;
  • At least 3-5 years of experience using qualitative and/or mixed methods (may include experience gained in college or graduate school);
  • Strong interest in applied research and/or program evaluation;
  • Strong research skills and a willingness to apply those skills in the education sector;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Docs, with strong proficiency in Excel and Google sheets;
  • Comfort navigating and visiting NYC public schools is essential;
  • Ability to work well independently, manage time, and prioritize responsibilities;
  • Must be able to work remotely.
Compensation/Benefits:

The position will be salaried at a competitive rate and includes benefits.
