The Community Liaison will serve as primary liaison to designated Community Boards and community groups and assist with operational functions of the Manhattan District Office of Congressman Jerrold Nadler.
The Liaison will exercise his/her judgment in making strategic decisions about the Member’s involvement and position on various community issues, in consultation with the District Director and Chief of Staff.

Areas of Responsibility: 

The role will involve:

• Attending community meetings by zoom or in person and being the primary point of contact for relevant community groups and designated Community Boards. This may include night or weekend meetings.

•Staffing the Member for relevant in district events or meetings as needed, this may include occasional nights and weekends.

•Briefing District Director, Chief of Staff, and Member of Congress on matters of interest in area covered by Liaison.

•Identifying ongoing issues or potential new issue areas for possible action by the Member, to be determined in consultation with District Director and Chief of Staff.

•Drafting statements, talking points, letters, social media posts, and other communiques on behalf of the Member, in consultation with District Director, Chief of Staff, and the Director of Communications.

•Building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders on behalf of the Member, including with overlapping elected officials, local organizations, and community leaders.

•Overseeing constituent casework as needed to assist the Constituent Services Department.

•Providing materials to Member or Community Relations team as needed.

•Working with the Community Relations team on updating and maintaining the Member’s New York schedule.


In addition, as a part of the District Office team, the Liaison assists with the operational functions in the office including but not limited to:

•Answering phones and greeting guests to the Congressional office, screening visitors and referring them to the appropriate staff or to the Member in accordance with established office procedures.

•Providing administrative support for office systems and operations.

Other duties as assigned.
The Community Liaison staff member reports to the District Director.

Educational Background: 
College Degree
Skills/Experience: 

Must have strong writing, listening and communications skills, be able to attend evening or weekend meetings, and be well-organized. Previous experience preferred.

Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary range is $45,000-$65,000 plus excellent benefits. Position begins immediately.
