Connecticut Voices for Children is seeking a Fiscal Policy Fellow.
Conduct research and advocacy on Connecticut Voices for Children’s tax, budget, and fiscal policy work. Essential duties are predominantly intellectual in character and include work requiring the consistent exercise of discretion and judgment.
Essential Functions
- Work with the Executive and Advocacy Directors and Fiscal Policy Team to implement goals for the fiscal policy research and analysis and to advance advocacy priorities.
- Manage and conduct, in partnership with other fiscal staff, fiscal, tax, and budget research and analysis, pursuing a research and policy agenda and tax and budget strategies that support thriving families and communities, educational excellent, and equity in opportunity and advance structural changes that improve budget sustainability, transparency, and accountability.
- Monitor, analyze and write on budget proposals, tax proposals, and other fiscal proposals.
- Present policy and research information to a variety of audiences, including policymakers, lawmakers, philanthropy, academic thought partners, and news media.
- In partnership with other fiscal staff, convene annual Budget Forum to share research and policy recommendations concerning fiscal policy.
- Work with national organizations to advance progressive policy at both state and national levels.
- Represent Connecticut Voices for Children in advocacy coalitions and legislative settings.
- Assist in identifying and obtaining funding for this work, including preparing grant applications and grant reports.
- Three or more years in public policy research and advocacy; supervisory experience preferred.
- Quantitative data analysis using spreadsheets (Excel), statistical analysis software (Stata, R, SPSS, etc.), geographic information systems (ArcGIS, QGIS, etc.), and interactive data visualization (Tableau Public, Google Fusion Tables). Programming experience preferred.
- Familiarity with economic and state and federal fiscal policy analysis, state budget processes, state and federal tax law, and state and federal data sources.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills, including ability to communicate complex information to non-expert audiences.
- Experience with lobbying or similar advocacy experience.
