The Director of Information Technology (IT) will be MCEC’s lead agent for planning, developing and delivering efficient, effective and best-value IT solutions to MCEC staff, volunteers and others who operate within MCEC’s network and domain. Solutions include, but are not limited to: hardware, software, subscriptions, licenses, electronic communications, employee IT training, enterprise IT policy, firewall and overall security, help desk and troubleshooting, connectivity, uptime, data integrity and virus control, and similar. The Director will be a financially savvy manager and planner who understand and implements detailed and sound budget and inventory control, proposal/subscription/license service comparison and evaluation, vendor liaison, and cost containment.

 

The Director will be a mission-focused and collaborative member of MCEC’s operations and support team, working closely with the Executive Leadership Team (ELT, which is currently comprised of the President and Chief Executive Officer, SVP & COO, and vice presidents), Comptroller, Director of Human Resources, Chief of Logistics, and other organizational leaders to ensure solutions are clearly understood and delivered efficiently, effectively and at best-value. This position requires a combination of technical, management, and communication skills that cut across a diverse group of internal and external customers and stakeholders.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Manage MCEC’s overall IT program and serve as MCEC’s IT subject matter expert (SME)
  • Maintain MCEC’s IT hardware inventory, which currently includes proprietary data servers, laptop computers and peripherals, and similar assets; and manage lifecycle maintenance and replacement (within budgetary authority and available funding)
  • Serve as in-house help desk, promptly and thoroughly responding to internal IT support requests, troubleshooting, solving and managing requests to completion, while communicating status positively and understandably with MCEC teammates
  • Execute and monitor IT budget, in coordination with supervisor and Comptroller, demonstrating responsible fiscal control over assigned budget
  • Recommend, obtain and manage software and platform subscriptions and licenses
  • Serve as vendor liaison for IT-related subscriptions and licenses
  • Train staff on existing and new software, platforms and subscription services
  • Identify opportunities to improve IT methods; policies and procedures; and hardware/software/platform/subscription assets
  • Plan and stay ahead of necessary updates, security concerns, uptime, and similar matters
  • Attend and participate as on-site MCEC IT SME at events including, but not limited to, the annual MCEC Global Summit (currently a yearly Summer event in Washington DC)
  • Communicate clearly, collegially and understandably in writing and speaking, emphasizing explanation and simplicity for non-IT-professional teammates, ensuring highest level of internal and external customer service, establishing a receptive environment and positive, professional relations within the organization, and with external partners, customers, and other contacts
  • Complete required reports in a timely and accurate manner
  • Comply with all MCEC policies, operating procedures, legal requirements, and verbal and written directives, asking for clarification whenever needed
  • Other duties as assigned
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in IT, computer science, software engineering, or a related field; master’s degree in similar field preferred
Skills/Experience: 
  • Demonstrated and verifiable professional experience in analysis, implementation and evaluation of IT systems and their specifications
  • Demonstrated and verifiable subject matter expertise in computer systems (hardware/software), networks, and similar IT structures
  • Sound understanding of, and experience in, managing and controlling an IT budget
  • Excellent organizational, management, written and oral communication, and teamwork skills
