Introduction:

 

This is a full-time position with American Bird Conservancy (ABC). American Bird Conservancy is a fast-growing, results-focused wildlife conservation non-profit seeking employees with an entrepreneurial spirit and a desire to make a difference for birds throughout the Americas. ABC takes on the greatest problems facing birds today, innovating and building on rapid advancements in science to halt extinctions, protect habitats, eliminate threats, and build capacity for bird conservation.

 

ABC is hiring an IT Specialist to install and maintain computer systems and networks to optimize the role of technology on a day-to-day business. The candidate must have a thorough knowledge of computer software and hardware, a variety of internet applications, networks and operating systems, and cloud storage and databases. The ideal candidate will also have advanced troubleshooting skills, focused attention to detail, and be able to provide training on laptop, software, and technology use to ABC staff.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Primary Duties:

  • Sets up laptops and workstations, and necessary peripheral devices (docking stations, monitors, printers etc.).
  • Tests computer hardware and computer peripherals to ensure functionality.
  • Installs and configures appropriate software according to specifications.
  • Maintains local networks to optimize performance.
  • Ensures security and privacy of networks, web servers, and computer systems.
  • Conducts periodic audits and due diligence checks of security protocols, evaluating systems for vulnerabilities.
  • Facilitates and manages the development, modification, and operation of security protocols including intrusion detection and prevention systems to protect the organizations information from breach or loss
  • Organizes and schedules upgrades and maintenance without deterring others from completing their work.
  • Performs troubleshooting to diagnose and resolve problems (repair or replace parts, debugging etc.).
  • Repairs and recovers from potential hardware or software failures.
  • Maintains records/logs of repairs and fixes per a maintenance schedule
  • Troubleshoots and repairs malfunctions in existing networks to ensure minimal user impact from equipment failures.
  • Monitor networks and troubleshoot tier two network performance.
  • Assists in documenting and maintaining IT-related processes and policies to be published in the Employee Handbook.
  • Assists in IT security audits or investigations.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Skills/Experience: 

Position Requirements:

 

  • Proven experience with a minimum 7+ years’ experience in the IT industry;
  • Degree in Computer Science, engineering or relevant field;
  • Certifications preferred, but not required (i.e. CompTIA Network+ CompTIA A+ Technician Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE);
  • Experience with IT cybersecurity audit protocol, (i.e. SOC1, SOC2);
  • Experience with cloud-based platforms such as Egnyte, Intermedia, EveryAction, cloud antivirus and financial systems based (i.e. Financial Edge, Net Suite);
  • Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills via remote means;
  • Excellent communication skills (i.e. ability to explain technical concepts to a lay audience);
  • Outstanding organizational and time-management skills;
  • Advanced understanding of VoIP systems;
  • Ability to work patiently, constructively, and collaboratively with others, and handle multiple tasks and responsibilities simultaneously;
  • Advanced understanding of diverse computer windows based systems and networks;
  • Advanced knowledge of internet security and data privacy principles;
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.; U.S Citizen, or Permanent Resident; and
  • Background screening required.
