Policy Manager, Global Climate Action Summit

Event Overview: The Global Climate Action Summit will convene more than a thousand leaders who see climate change as an existential threat and are committed to rolling back the forces of carbonization. Hosted by Governor Jerry Brown, the Summit will underscore the urgency of the threat and channel the energy and idealism of people everywhere to overcome it. Summit leaders will quantify the carbon emissions sub-national actors have already cut, secure bold commitments from them to do even more, show that decarbonization and economic growth go hand-in-hand, and galvanize a global movement that embraces people from all walks of life. More than just an event, the Summit will catalyze climate action through 2020 and beyond.

The Policy Manager for the Global Climate Action Summit will work with the Summit team to develop and deliver headline outcomes for the Summit. The Policy Manager will be employed by the United Nations Foundation and seconded to the office of the Governor of California.

This is a full time position lasting until December 31, 2018.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Help the Summit team demonstrate delivery and aggregate the impact of commitments since Paris
  • Lead on the development and delivery of one or more headline outcomes for the Summit – major new commitments and announcements that will bend the global GHG emissions curve by 2020
  • Collaborate with the Summit team on fundraising and building partnerships in the context of developing Summit announcements
  • Work with the Summit communications team to position Summit announcements for maximal exposure during the Summit and in the media
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s Degree preferred
Skills/Experience: 
  • 5+ years of experience for a national or international organization and/or campaign
  • Good understanding of the politics of and key players in the climate change arena
  • Strong attention to detail and demonstrated excellence working in a fast-paced environment; ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Strong professional interpersonal skills and diplomacy
  • Ability to work independently as well as a member of a team
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
  • Interest, knowledge of or experience in climate policy
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle stress
