The Food Service Director will plan, direct, and coordinate the food service program. This position requires face-to-face leadership in these programs and may involve early morning, evening, and weekend responsibilities.
Areas of Responsibility:
Food Service
- Provide oversight for the execution of all elements (seek out and establish food distribution sites, handle reimbursements and other paperwork) associated with the Wal-Mart or other grant funding.
- Replicate the food service program throughout the association/community where appropriate.
- Lead Association in providing healthy meals and snacks in all Before/After school and Early Childhood programs according to USDA guidelines.
- Responsible for all Y-kitchens certifications, inspections and Serve Safe.
- In collaboration with the Head Cook plans food service menu
- Ensures menu plans for the purpose of meeting students mandated daily nutritional requirements
- Inspects food items and/or supplies for the purpose of verifying quantity, quality, and specifications of orders and complying with mandated health standards
- In collaboration with the Head Cook, creates orders and helps receive and store food and other supplies
- Adheres to grant requirements
- Maintains kitchen facility in accordance with State of Michigan Health Regulations
- Maintains requirements for MDE and USD
Human Resources Management
- Manages the Food Service staff and volunteers; sets goals and objectives for each staff member
- Assists staff in identifying and meeting all development needs with action plans built into the next fiscal year budget
- Interviews, hires, and trains staff; plans, assigns and directs work; rewards and disciplines staff; and address complaints and resolves problems
- Supports the Association in recruitment of diverse employees and volunteers
- Manages the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of this department
Fiscal Management
- Manages annual budget development; monitors monthly budget and year-end forecast for all program areas
- Meets all budge goals
- Completes payroll; Audits payroll reports
- Operates areas within directives and policies of the Association
- Assists with Annual Campaign fundraising efforts
Performs any other functions necessary for the smooth and efficient operation of DDH Food Service and the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids
Educational Background:
Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university;
Skills/Experience:
- Registered dietitian preferred; six months to one year of experience in an institutional food service setting; Serv Safe certified; experience with USDA food programs preferred, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Minimum of 21 years of age. Ability to interact with people from all ethnic backgrounds, ages, and lifestyles. YMCA experience preferred.
