Direct the development of the Asset Library in the National Geographic online academy for educators. Develop overall strategy, timelines, budgets, and staffing for the initial build, and then ongoing growth of the library. Have knowledge of the competitive marketplace, classroom practices and educational trends in order to bring innovative, educator-centered ideas to overall program plan. Identify partners for contribution, co-development, and/or licensing opportunities for addition of assets to the library. Assure alignment with institutional priorities.
Program Strategy:
- Establish the editorial and instructional strategy for the Asset Library for educators. Work with Digital Team, Video Team and other program directors and managers involved in the academy on timelines, dependencies, asset-build priorities, and budgets to maximize efficiency and success of the academy rollout. Work with Monitoring & Evaluation team to develop appropriate evaluation protocols. (40%)
Program Management:
- Direct the content and editorial processes for the Asset Library. Manage a team of editors, instructional designers, writers, managers, specialists, and contractors to ensure the assets in the Library meet National Geographic standards of instructional design, quality and creativity. Create teams, budgets, timelines, and ensure program goals are met for each product within stated timeframes. Maintain working knowledge of state and national education standards (in Science, Social Studies, Geography, and Common Core especially) ensuring coverage of standards in the Asset Library. Conduct user experience events for research and qualitative feedback. (30%)
Marketing, Communication and Partnerships:
- Manage relationships with key internal and external partners and funders. Identify potential partners for contribution, co-development, or licensing of assets to enhance the Library. Work with Marketing and Engagement team to develop messaging and engagement strategies for appropriate audiences.(20%)
Team, Divisional and Organizational Collaboration:
- Collaborate and communicate with colleagues from other National Geographic Society and National Geographic Partners divisions to maximize efficiencies, use of media and other assets, and assure consistency across programs. Foster innovation and team development. (10%)
Minimum Years and Types of Experience:
- 10+ years related publishing experience and/or training, including 5+ years of project or program management experience.
- Experience in K-12 education, preferably with classroom teaching/curriculum design. Experience in web publishing.
- Knowledge of aspects of Web 2.0, including digital learning, communities, user-generated content, public data, and asset sharing a plus.
Knowledge and Skills Required:
- Highly developed oral and written communication skills and ability to work with individuals and groups at all levels; strongly honed leadership/people skills.
- Ability to manage a high-functioning team and work on multiple projects, under deadlines, with changing priorities in a dynamic, fast-paced, environment.
- Proficiency in Office Suite and HTML with experience with Adobe Creative Suites and Flash desirable. Familiarity with content management systems, database design and management, web analytics tools and project management tools.
- Demonstrated leadership skills within the K-12 publishing industry.
