Under the supervision of the Executive Director, The Los Altos Family YMCA is currently looking for a Full Time Aquatics Coordinator who is responsible for all areas pertaining to the aquatics department. Including but not limited to overall oversite of the pool, meeting/exceeding swim lesson enrollment goals, hiring/training/supervising staff, executing safety trainings, and creating a safe and positive environment.
Areas of Responsibility:
Program Development & Operations:
- Develop aquatic programs as per the branch goals.
- Oversee daily operation and implementation of all aquatic programs by staff to members to assure quality service and programming.
- In coordination with the Maintenance Director, regulate maintenance of pools.
Human Resources:
- Recruit, hire, train, evaluate, and recognize staff as necessary to ensure quality program delivery and proper equipment maintenance.
- Manage staff certifications and create development plans for all department staff ensuring opportunities for growth and success.
Fiscal Management:
- Develop annual departmental operating budgets.
- Monitor progress of revenue and expenses to maintain control over net outcome.
- Follow branch procedures and policies regarding the use of petty cash, cash advances, expense reports, etc.
Financial Development:
- Serve as staff liaison to an assigned division during the Annual Support Campaign, meeting volunteer recruitment and financial goals.
Administration:
- Develop and implement recruitment and retention practices to welcome and retain members and participants.
- Provide consistent communication to members and staff with feedback and new ideas.
- Maintain accurate statistics of all aquatic programs.
Planning:
- Assist in the development and implementation of branch operating plan as it relates to program development.
- Develop and manage department marketing plan to maximize awareness, promotion and enrollment.
- Maintain current knowledge in aquatic trends as well as enhance activities using innovative planning.
Community/Association/Branch Relationships:
- Participate as an active member of the Association Aquatics Cluster and willingly take a leadership role as needed.
- Participate as a member of the Los Altos Y leadership team and work to ensure the success of the whole branch.
- Attend trainings, meetings, retreats, and conferences which are beneficial personally and professionally, as advised by supervisor.
- Coordinate collaborative programs with community entities.
Educational Background:
College Degree and/or equivalent experience preferred.
Skills/Experience:
- Minimum 21 years of age. Two or more years experience working as a lifeguard/swim instructor in an aquatics facility. 1 or more year experience in aquatics management preferred.
- Current Lifeguard and swim instructor certification from either YMCA or the American Red Cross, including, First Aid, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, and O2 required and must be maintained and kept in current status. YMCA Lifeguard and Swim Instructor Certification is preferred.
- Must pass a pre-employment practical and written exam.
- Must have the visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency situation; ability to adequately observe participant activities, enforce safety regulations, and apply appropriate policies and procedures; the physical ability to lead and interact in group activities and perform related physical skills.
- Strong communication skills (both written and oral).
- Certified trainer for CPR/First Aid, Lifeguard and Swim Instructor preferred or willingness to become a certified trainer.
- Must complete criminal clearance including fingerprints, health and negative drug screening and TB test, complete the online New Employee Orientation and Child Abuse Prevention Training.
- Must be enthusiastically committed to YMCA mission, member involvement and character development programs.
Compensation/Benefits:
Hourly: $14.00 - $18.00
