Under the general guidance of the Executive Director the Camp Program Director VI is responsible for providing leadership and administration for all camp programs through direct supervision of the Assistant Director- Waterfront, Land, and Conference. Responsibilities include but are not limited to budget management, program development, staff recruitment, camper recruitment, conference group retention and recruitment. The Program Director will work closely with the Executive Director to insure consistent, high level; quality programs are delivered to all participants of YMCA Camp Tockwogh.
The Program Director will need to live on camp property while resident camp is in operation (June-August). Perform job duties on weekends, holidays, and evenings as the camp/conference schedule dictates. The position will be on duty 24 hours as camp/conference schedule dictates.
- Supervise Assistant Directors and their respective program areas
- Oversee all camp operations in the absence of the Executive Director
- Signing power (PIF’s and PO’s) in the absence of the Executive Director
- Articulates and leads by example the character values of honesty, caring, respect, and responsibility.
- Responsible for the recruitment of the summer camp staff to include, college visits, job websites and job fairs
- Recruit, hire, train, supervise and evaluate all summer conference staff
- Hire and supervise the summer staff
- Oversee annual summer staff training program
- Ensure positive program growth and development through research and evaluation of new programs and opportunities
- Monitor and maintain all program equipment
- Responsible for the care, maintenance and adherence to US Coast Guard, Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Maryland Department of Health, Ellis and Associates, American Camping Association and other safety standards and requirements.
- Purchase all supplies related to program and maintenance and maintain inventory and cost control
- Assist Facility Director with essential pool and bathhouse facility care
- Oversee the development of department(s) budgets
- Assist the Executive Director with salary control and management
- Responsible for assisting with research and planning for long-range improvements to camp and equipment
- The Program Director must bring a background suited to the requirements of the position and a four years bachelor’s degree. The program director must possess good verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate with people on all levels as a professional. The Program Director must have the ability to process confidential information through a firm understanding of the branch chain of command, and exercise self-motivation and reliability to ensure proper follow-up to the Executive Director on branch matters.
- The Program Director must have knowledge of budget control and preparation, marketing of programs and new program implementation to maximize usage of camp. Must have knowledge of how to maintain and manage facility cleanliness.
