Leads project management for the design, development, testing, and evaluation for in-person educational programs (health, finances, technology, work/jobs, fraud, family caregiving, community design, etc.) to improve the lives of people age 50+. This role includes both project management (creating and overseeing project plans/timelines) and content creation, including written/verbal/visual communications, to advance program development. Requires the ability to 1) distill complex subject matters into inviting, easily understood and accessible educational information; and 2) ability to effectively project manage multiple workstreams at a time.

This Project Manager will have day-to-day responsibility for managing program design projects, project plans and timelines to ensure program development meets assigned goals. This position will leverage the human-centered design (“design thinking”) innovation approach to develop new educational programs across various formats (workshops, fair/festivals, etc.).

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • In support of in-person program design:
  • Project manages program development to create best-in-class free, educational programs to improve the lives of that age 50+.
  • Leverages exceptional written/verbal/visual communications skills to best communicate with key target audiences.
  • Brings strong attention to detail to the design of programs and ongoing quality assurance.
  • Applies audience/market segmentation research and insights to create customized programming, with special emphasis on Boomer/Multicultural audiences.
  • Gathers the program development and execution learnings from state offices. Strives to use feedback and ongoing state engagement, as well as data collection and evaluation, to make continuous program improvement suggestions.  
  • Supports “test and learn” to ensure high-quality programming meets the needs of state offices and age 50+ consumers. Engages in data collection and analysis to ensure that programs are fully evaluated and achieving desired reach and outcomes.
  • Collaborates with other AARP national office colleagues delivering community and online programming to share practices.  
  • Receives direction/input/recommendations from Subject Matter Experts/Issue Leads, State Offices and/or other National/External Stakeholders.
  • Supports processes to ensure efficient and effective methods for stakeholder input from across the enterprise.
  • Works on programs that can be delivered locally and in-person by agency teams, state staff and/or volunteers in standalone events (workshops, etc.) and as part of other local activities (fairs, festivals, expos, conferences, etc.).
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in program or project management, business administration, marketing, journalism, innovation, design or related field
Skills/Experience: 
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in positions where coordination, networking, writing and/or marketing were central to the job; or a combination of education and experience in areas directly related to the duties of this position.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, demonstrated ability to build, sustain and nurture strong, productive working relationships internally and externally.
  • Experience with journalism, marketing communications, creative writing, business communications and/or other field where exceptional writing and editing skills were integral to the position is preferred.
  • Experience working with multicultural audiences (Hispanic/Latino, African American/Black and/or Asian American/Pacific Islander) a plus.
