The UN Foundation is seeking a motivated energy professional to contribute to the success and growth of its Energy Access program. As a Manager, you will work as part of a dynamic international team to contribute to several programmatic initiatives, particularly the Foundation’s Energy Access Practitioner Network and Mini-Grids Partnership, both of which support the development of the off-grid energy sector. In this role, you will be responsible for providing day-to-day management of and substantive input to both initiatives, including helping identify new areas of growth. The Manager may also get involved, on a more limited basis, in other initiatives, including our work to advance energy access in health care and humanitarian settings.
The Manager reports to the Senior Director for Energy Access, and works closely with other members of the Energy Access team.
- Assist the Senior Director for Energy Access in setting the overall strategic direction of the Energy Access Practitioner Network and Mini-Grids Partnerships, including identifying and cultivating new areas of work.
- Oversee member relations for both the Energy Access Practitioner
- Network and Mini-Grids Partnership, including recruiting and cultivating strong working relations with (new) members, partners and Sustainable Energy for All.
- Plan and execute market intelligence and knowledge sharing activities, such as webinars, market surveys and case studies.
- Plan and execute a range of recurring communications activities, including newsletters and membership emails and calls.
- Plan and execute domestic and international conferences, workshops and networking events.
- Manage the Practitioner Network’s website, including keeping the website and its content up-to-date and relevant.
- Work with the UN Foundation’s Public Affairs team to amplify the work of both initiatives through social media.
- Hire and manage contractors to support the initiatives, including website developers, graphic designers and consultants.
- Undertake domestic and international travel in support of activities relevant to one or both initiatives.
- Monitor and evaluate the impact and performance of both initiatives.
Represent the UN Foundation at external meetings and professional gatherings. - Assist the Senior Director for Energy Access in developing strategies and proposals for the Energy Access program.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Minimum of 5 years of professional experience, 3 years of which should be in energy access. Familiarity with energy access issues and stakeholders, particularly those related to renewable distributed power solutions (stand-alone and mini-grid solutions).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills including strong drafting ability.
- Strong attention to detail and organization is a must.
- Familiarity with international development issues, and the role of the UN, the World Bank and other multilateral and bilateral institutions.
- Fluency in written and spoken English. Proficiency in languages other than English, namely French, Portuguese, Swahili and/or Spanish, preferred.
- Team player who is also able to work independently and is a self-starter.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and SalesForce. Website management experience, including familiarity with HTML/CSS preferred.

- Ability to travel internationally up to 25%.
