The Senior Communications Officer, Editorial and Writing will play a key role in developing and executing communications plans to advance UN Foundation priorities, developing messaging, media, and content strategies, as well as producing and pitching content for the UN Foundation and its campaigns, initiatives, and alliances. The Senior Communications Officer will work with team members across the Foundation on a variety of issue areas and will be an integral part of the Foundation’s public affairs activities. This position will also support the leadership team of the Foundation with public remarks and writing content, develop content for Foundation owned and operated media channels, and support the development of UN Foundation brand collateral. This is a new position that will work closely with the Senior Communications Officer, Editorial and Media, and the Communications Officer, under the leadership of the Senior Director, Communications.
- Drafts and edits statements, press releases, blog posts, op-eds, speeches, and talking points in support of the Foundation and its leadership.
- Works with editorial team to develop and execute strategic communications plans to advance UN Foundation priorities.
- Supports speechwriting for Foundation leadership.
- Develops ideas for and drafts op-eds, and thought leadership pieces.
- Writes messaging and TPs for UN Foundation staff.
- Develops UN Foundation “brand” materials – fact sheets, website language, annual reports, etc.
- Supports Foundation communications needs, including media outreach, on key issues as needed.
- Works closely with digital team and communications teams of Foundation initiatives to support communications needs.
- Participate as an active member of the Public Affairs team. Serve as needed on various projects including the full scope of PR and communications activities
- Minimum of 6-7 years of experience in communications.
- Excellent writing and editing skills, and experience writing for organizational leadership.
- Demonstrated working relationships with consultants, policy staff, and media.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage several projects simultaneously and work with teams across an organization.
- Ability to understand communications landscape to create comprehensive communications plans.
- Experience in international affairs and/or public policy preferred
- Ability to meet regular attendance/tardiness policy.
- Ability to work under pressure and handle stress.
- Sense of humor a plus.
