Under the direction of the Associate Executive Director, and consistent with the Y’s mission and values, theHealthy Living Director II is responsible for the effective operation of the Wellness Departments. The Healthy Living Director is accountable for delivering exceptional and outstanding programs and services to YMCA members and program participants.
The Healthy Living Director is a highly visible representative of the YMCA mission, themes, and character development values. He/she is responsible for knowing and properly executing all YMCA policies and procedures. The Healthy Living Director leads, manages, and supervises the Healthy Living staff and volunteers. He/She is directly responsible for the growth, development, and implementation of all Wellness programs, including Group Exercise and Personal and Small Group Training programs, and is critical in innovating and developing new approaches to community health through the YMCA.

- Assist in the development, implementation and execution of Work Place Wellness & Corporate Partnerships
- Working knowledge of membership operations such as but not limited to; Daxko Operations, facility tours, membership categories and pricing.
Supervision responsibilities include:
- Group Exercise Manager and Coordinator
- All Healthy Living Coordinators (including but not limited to any specialty corporate wellness or off-site partnerships)
- Healthy Living Coaches
- Healthy Living Instructors
- Health Living Trainers
Other responsibilities include:
- Know and understand all YMCA policies and procedures and ensure that all of these procedures are always consistently enforced.
- Assist as needed in emergency situation and as outlined in emergency procedures

- Constantly greet and develop relationships with members and program participants throughout the facility and in the community.
- Answer phone calls, handle participant concerns, and be able to answer questions relating to wellness programming in a prompt and timely manner.
- Display competence with the computer system. Perform a variety of functions such as data entry, report processing, and financial management.
- Develop and manage the yearly Wellness Department budget. Continuously display effective and efficient fiscal management. Submit monthly variance reports and accurate budget forecasts.
- Perform daily administrative work as needed such as filing, copying, record keeping, and payroll completion.
- Develop, schedule, implement and supervise all wellness programming.
- Identify specific programming aimed at serving target audiences such as Youth and Teens, Active Older Adults, Pre/Post Natal, and Post-Rehabilitation Maintenance. Develop seasonal fitness programs targeting member involvement.
- Develop a staff recruitment, training, and recognition program to ensure high moral and staff retention.
- Monitor the cleaning, maintenance, functionality, and operation of all wellness area facilities including the wellness center, group exercise studios, and exercise studios.
- Ensure the YMCA Character Development values and evident in all wellness programs and activities.
- Collaborate intensively with the Membership Department in multiple areas including retention, training, report processing, statistical analysis, etc.
- Monitor and purchase necessary wellness equipment. Maintain and upkeep all equipment through scheduled and preventative maintenance and repair.
- Provide continuous leadership and supervision to the wellness staff. Recruit, hire, develop, and evaluate the staff. Train and provide orientation for recently hired staff within 10 days of employment. Develop and distribute schedules for the efficient staffing of the Wellness departments.
- Organize and conduct department staff meetings as needed. Provide at least one make-up time for each staff meeting/in-service training. Continually communicate with and inform staff about YMCA programs and current issues.
- Continually ensure that all wellness staff maintain required certifications and are aware of the expiration dates of their current certifications. Ensure emergency preparedness through the regular execution of emergency drills.
- Attend and actively participate in all required leadership staff trainings, meetings, and program development activities.
- Maintain harmonious rapport with all staff, volunteers, members, and the general public at all times.
- Serve on the association Healthy Living Cabinet, and relevant Task Force groups, and actively participate in the Annual Campaign.
- Assist in the marketing and promotion of all Wellness programming. Assist as needed in the developing and evaluating materials that promote and enhance the programs of the YMCA.
- Understand the Y’s vision and philosophy and how they support each other. Be a team player who can solve problems and communicate positively with members, share knowledge about YMCA programs with members and the community, and work well with others.
- Work in the Wellness department at least 40 hours a week and be available for evening and weekend shifts.
- Initiative communication with supervisor and the Community Executive Director as necessary concerning program problems, personnel conflicts, and member concerns.
- Perform other duties as required by the Associate Executive Director.
- 4 years professional experience in related field. i.e. sales, communications, business, marketing.
- Excellent personal computer skills and experience with standard business software.
- Must have excellent interpersonal, public relations and communications skills and experience, including the ability to make presentations and handle media inquiries.
- Maintain current certifications in CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, O2 and First Aid.
Salary: $35,000.00 - $43,900.00
