Front-End Developer/Designer

NRDC is seeking a front-end web developer with a strong design background to join our digital team. This is a one year position working alongside our in-house teams (and contractors, as necessary) to create web products that align with NRDC’s strategic mission, and will take an active role in determining how those web products look and function. Ideal candidates have experience working with non-technical stakeholders, ideally as part of an in-house team. The ideal candidate should love working in a face-paced environment with multiple projects in progress at once.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Collaborate with in-house design, editorial, and web colleagues, as well as with outside vendors to transform UX wireframes into code
  • Assist in technical implementation strategies and creating implementation plans
  • Design and build engaging advocacy and fundraising forms and campaign pages
  • Assist in the design and delivery of standalone campaign websites/microsites
  • Assist the web team to diagnose and resolve bugs as needed, and to prepare for our regular site deployments
Skills/Experience: 
  • Proficient understanding of web markup, including HTML5 and CSS.
  • Familiarity with PHP, Rails and Django
  • Experience working in Drupal, WordPress and other CMS platforms
  • Proficient understanding of JavaScript frameworks, including jQuery. (Understanding of advanced JavaScript frameworks such as AngularJS and KnockoutJS is a plus.)
  • Basic understanding of server-side CSS pre-processing platforms, such as SASS
  • Working knowledge of Git and command line tools
  • Familiarity with Jira, Assembla, or similar project management platforms
  • Familiarity with ActionKIt or a similar CRM platform strongly preferred
  • Experience working in-house and/or on a product team is a plus
  • A curiosity and willingness to master new technologies and concepts
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively across teams and projects
  • Strong communications skills especially with multiple stakeholders
  • Ability to meet deadlines while working on multiple projects
  • A good sense of humor and the willingness to experiment and innovate.
