Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Wellness Director will successfully lead a team and plan, administer, and evaluate all wellness-related programming.  This position is primarily responsible for the design and implementation of the branch health and wellness programs and for the successful achievement and alignment with the YMCA of the USA initiatives to “strengthen the foundations of community” together with the Metro Atlanta YMCA strategic plan.   Also, this position will play a key role in delivering THE COACH APPROACH® and any other core wellness programs endorsed by or developed by the YMCA of Metro Atlanta.

The G. Cecil Community Center YMCA is located in Canton, GA, just 40 miles north of downtown Atlanta.  This facility was built in 2006 and has approximately 65,000 square feet serving the surrounding population with programs supporting Healthy Lifestyles, Youth Development and Social Responsibility. The city of Canton has seen over a 2.5% growth in the past year and research shows this trend will continue into the coming years. 

The Cherokee Outdoor Y is located in Woodstock, GA, just 12 miles south of Canton. This location has an encompassing 250 acres that is on Lake Allatoona and serves the community with Summer Camp, Retreats, Sports, Nature Excursions, Horseback and Swimming. This location is in partnership with the Corp of Engineers.

Combined, the two locations have an operational budget of $3.4M and approximately 3k membership units. 

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Recruit, hire, train, develop, schedule, supervise, and evaluate the Wellness Department, including employees and volunteers.
  • Develop and implement a plan to attract and recruit new members and corporate partnerships.
  • Conduct pilots for new programs; develop plans and manage best practices through engagement of the staff team.
  • Effectively manage budgets; hold staff accountable for high-quality results using a formal process to measure progress.
  • Foster a climate of innovation.
  • Monitor progress towards branch’s goals by running and reviewing all necessary reports.
  • Lead the Y’s presence at community outreach, including the “WHY IT MATTERS” campaign.
  • Coordinates marketing efforts to maximize enrollments and provides ongoing support to the Director on related issues.
  • Supervise and monitor all activities relating to THE COACH APPROACH®, and follow best practices and protocols, which include staffing, scheduling, accountability, and reports.
  • Perform Coach Approach appointments, and manage a caseload of at least 30 active Coach Approach members.
  • Supervise and monitor all activities related to computerized fitness-management station (may include monthly reports, termination reports, top performers lists, etc.)
  • Supervise and monitor all activities relating to the Wellness Center
Educational Background: 
A Bachelor’s degree required in exercise science, physical education, exercise psychology, behavioral science, or a health-related field.
Skills/Experience: 
  • National Group Exercise or Personal Trainer certification (sanctioned by YMCA of the USA) preferred.
  • Two (2) or more years of supervision experience required.
  • Fiscal budgeting experience required.
  • YMCA/ACE online certification and supplemental courses required by Y-USA within 30 days of hire date.
  • Must maintain certifications by uploading continuing education credits via Y-Exchange (yexchange.org) prior to date of expiration.
  • Must possess current CPRO/AED and O-2 certifications and renew them annually prior to date of expiration.  Updated licenses shall be uploaded via Y-Exchange (yexchange.org).
  • Must attend Initial Coach Approach training within six months of hire date.
  • Must have a background in staff team development and relationship management.
  • Seeks, cultivates, and supervises volunteers.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to establish, collaborate, and maintain relationships with staff, YMCA members, volunteers, schools, and the general public.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, work independently, problem-solve, and possess effective time-management skills.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Must possess visual and cognitive abilities to utilize computer-based and written materials to administer all job-related responsibilities.
  • Hands-on experience with utilizing data to make informed decisions.
  • Exemplify YMCA ideals and leadership qualities.
  • Personal commitment to service and hospitality.
  • Pass a criminal background and drug screening check.
  • If internal to the YMCA, must have, at a minimum, the YMCA Team Leader certification.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $42,000.00 - $44,000.00
